...pockets

I hear that the standard version of Todd's don't have liner inside the pockets i.e. that it's not cut into the lining, rather it's side entry pocket is just the opening behind the patch pocket. That kinda ***** if you ask me but for the price this jacket comes at I cannot argue. Todd is in the Pantheon of Indy jacket makers and I admire his work.

I would like to see however, a few photos of the side entry pockets please.
If you can assist with posting some photos here, it will be highly appreciated.

now back on topic, did i read somewhere that todd was going to remedy this with his new 'standard' offering? i know he was using different hides now for the standard and i thought i read that he was going to revise this in the future. i could be wrong so please don't take it as gospel........but if i am wrong.......mr. coyle.....hint hint....nudge nudge

Wings aren't cut in either. The side pocket is separated from the front pocket by cloth as well

I'm always looking for ways to improve my products, and that means that there will always be little tweaks made.

The decision to do the pockets that way was made at the factory, and I found out about it when I picked up the shipment and opened them up. However, it is a much stronger design (better, if I dare say so), so I decided to leave it. Most people don't get into that much detail and are perfectly pleased with them. But I'm a little on the fence, and may change it to the original configuration in the future.

Yes, the hides have been slightly different with each order. I really like the last batch I got.

I somehow missed this thread when it was fresh. Even so, I'd like to pitch in that you should leave the pockets as the are Todd. Some of us have had problems with pockets that enter the lining when we've been caught in a driving rain or snow storm, or taken a tumble in a snow drift. You can end up soaked from the inside out, even if the leather would have protected you from the elements. You've made an outstanding jacket, and the simple feature of a patch pocket actually has a functional purpose. Don't change it!

I agree, that is one thing I don't like about my wested, I would rather have the pockets atttached speratly, keep the wind and dampness out. But to each his own.

I agree with Weston, I like that the inside of my jacket is protected from the outside by the leather.

I have slipped in the snow, and I'm happy that the liner was able to stay dry.

However, for me this is a moot point because I likely won't be purchasing another until my current one wears out.

Wow, by all means LEAVE the pockets like they are. I believe ALL of the different maker jackets have the pockets with the leather of the jacket behind them, don't they? I think opening directly to the liner is foolish! I've owned a Wings, Gibson and Barnes, Wested- all were on the leather.

Check your wested again... Stick your hand into the hand warmer pocket (in the side) and you'll feel you hand go into the lining.

On my US Wings A2-2000, the side-entry pocket is separated from the outer patch pocket by two layers of material: one nylon, one leather. The side-entry pocket is of nylon and located between the lining and the shell leather. The patch pocket is sewn on top of the shell, so it has leather on both inner surfaces.

I guess their Indy-style jackets are different?

On the Indy style jacket the hand warmer enters at the side of the patch pocket, but does not go through the leather to the inside of the jacket. It is separated from the front part of the patch pocket by cloth.

Doesn't the A2-2000 have a separate opening for the handwarmer set behind the actual patch pocket? That is it's a completely separate pocket?

Correct. Originally, I had wanted the pocket to be directly under the patch pocket as in the Indy jacket, but now I see that this might have gotten me inferior construction.

Not at all. Just different, the way the pocket was designed is very elegant.

I agree Kt it isn't inferior construction, just different.
