Todd´s MKVII vs. NH Original (w/pics)

I just got my Todd´s MKVII bag ( incl. light brown strap) in the mail today and thought I would compare it with a recently purchased NH Original Unissued MKVII with a dark brown strap.
If there were ever any size issues, these have been taken care of. Todd´s bag is, for my money, identical in size to the original. The bag itself is incredibly detailed inside and out, down to the stitching patterns and inside pockets. The placement of the ring straps is actually more square on, as opposed to the angle in the originals, but I believe this makes it actually look better. The snaps could be a bit better, they don’t close very well at times, but that can be tweaked easily.
Now the straps: The NH strap is a bit thicker and heavier than Todd´s, the leather feels like it could come from real rifle sling, and it has “NH London” embossed on the inside :) . I believe I got one of the last ones, as they no longer seem to be available. Todd´s strap, lighter in color, has a great buckle and is also very SA. I gave it a slathering of Peckard (after the pics were taken) and it has darkened a bit and gained more oomph! It comes with a Chicago screw, which is very handy. The NH strap came instead with one of those bolts you pound in with a hammer. In short, Todd´s MKVII is a great replica at a great price. If you have qualms about wearing out or ruining an original, get one of Todd’s and keep the original for special occasions.

PS: I stuffed both bags with newspaper for the pics to highlight the shape.

Hmm... I all for the original issue... The darker strap is cool, and it just seems more "Indy" to me...

I have 2 of Todds straps (one for each of my bags) and I think they're great. One is about a year and a half old and is dark brown. The other I recieved over the summer and is light brown like the one in the above pic. I applied leather conditioner and brown shoe polish and it darkened nicely. Todd's stuff is great!

I prefer the original MKVII. Nevertheless, Todd still makes a good repro

I've been very happy with my Todd's bag and strap. I've left it outside in the sun several times with some Pecard on the strap, and it has darkened up nicely.
