Today we started the shooting on Vol. II of the whip basics tutorial series.
It was fun to have the whole team together again. And a few new faces, too.
So - two more days of shooting...

I think, soon. Shooting will be done by tomorrow. Perhaps a few reshots - but that's normal - and my job's done.
Then it's in the hands of the cutter and the Avid, the sound folks and, and, and. Then it'll be converted into NTSC.
Perhaps it'll be ready to ship by middle of december. But if you like, you can check www.Midwestwhips.com
or www.Whip-Basics.de

Thanks for your kind words. I’m glad that you like the tutorial. The shooting for Vol. II is done,
and now it’s on the others. Editing, screening, re-editing and so on. With a little luck, Vol. II
will be at Midwestwhips middle/end of December.

And here are a few stills from the shooting in the studio.

Enjoy.

Robby,

Great to hear that the shoot is finally over! I hope you survived with your sanity still intact, ;-) And thanks for posting those pictures from the shoot, I'm really excited about this one, I have no doubt it will be great! Also, I think I recognize a couple of whips in those shots. ;-)

Tony,

All I'm gonna say is... ;-)

I posted a bit about VOL II on the sticky-ed Whip Basics thread, but I figured I'd copy it over here in case it is missed:

"Image

I spoke to Robby a couple of days ago, and he gave me the scoop on Vol II. I'm really excited about it. It sounds like they took everything that was great about the first one, and then made it even better!

Vol 2 will focus on new techniques:

fast figure eight
slow figure eight
coachman’s crack
a variation of the forward crack
an arrangement of 10 cracks in a continuous sequence
very detailed target work, which includes fluidity of motion and body mechanics

Just like in Volume I., the video will go through the same type of focus groups between each cut, which I think is one of the big reasons that make these dvds so effective. These Whipcracking tutorial dvds fully focus on teaching the viewer, with active input from viewers and students of the Whip-Basics series. The focus groups helps make the video have the best explanation available for a new whipcracker to understand it, and then execute it.

Vol. II will also have a 2nd disc as a data disc for your laptop to take with you when you go out to practice. And the dvd set will be the same price as Vol. I.

Volume II is still "Whip-Basics", and it is for the beginners who made their way through Volume I, and are progressing further in the basics of whipcracking. Or for those who have the prerequisite skills explained in Vol. I, and are looking to progress further.

I'm hoping we can have them in stock by Christmas. (but no promises) ;-)"

As I wrote before - the shooting was done. Now the first cut was made and today are the first two test screenings
with living people and whips... The cutting was very problematic, because there were over 6 hours of material for Volume II.
One thing is sure - Vol. II will be definetely longer than Vol. I. When the editor has the results, tomorrow will be the
re-cutting and later in the afternoon there'll be group three for the test. And so on. They have scheduled five screenings
max. but due to the fact that Vol. II will be longer, they might have more screenings on that.

Tony,

Lol, not implying anything. With the sticky threads, I tend to miss new posts at first, so I figured other people might as well. ;-)

Robby,

Great clip! Lauren and I are really excited to see it!

bobm2004,

I was waiting to hear a certain date that we would have them before I put them on the site, but since you asked, and since VOL I did so well, I went ahead and put up a pre-order on the website. And as soon as I have a solid estimated ship date I will post it on the site, and let everyone know.

Now the second - and so far the last - preview clip is online before it's released.
It shows some takes from the target work lesson.
Please let me know what you think!

Looks great. I am very excited.

Robby I really do like the pace and tempo you use while teaching. I am very pleased with Vol I and from the looks of it Vol II will be fantastic.

Thank you for making these.

As a matter of fact I just pre-ordered from http://www.midwestwhips.com.

I loved the targeting clip, the deliberate misses made me laugh and as Erik above mentioned the tempo of the DVD along with the well thought out good advice will no doubt make this volume as big a success as Vol I

Good Job!

Deliberate misses? What do you mean... Deliberate...? :)

I think it is important to show the beginner, that it's totally common that you can miss. The most important part (in my
opinion
) is, to synchronize yourself. Your view, your hip, shoulder, hand and whip. When you know, when you feel
where everything is, you can start to become accurate.

And it's also important not to pretend being perfect. Well, when you crack a target someone's holding, you should know
what you're doing... I had a call from a tv production here, and they invited me to perform in a show. And they
asked me if I can crack a cigarette out out of someone's mouth. I answered "yes, I can do this. But I won't
do it actually". They were surprised, and I explained them that I'm not a cracking machine. I make mistakes.
And - as I explained in that video - an inch to the right or to the left can be fatal here. So... No cigarette!

In Vol. II you'll see that I make a mistake when I'm demonstrating a combination with the fast figure eight. I had the
wrong start, and I said "Sorry, I missed that..." and the cutter wanted to take this out. But I insisted on that mistake to be
in the finished version. I told the cutter (and the producer) that it's good to see that even the teacher doesn't get it right every
time. We're all humans. So what? I asked them if they're afraid that no one believes in my abilities as teacher anymore
when I make a mistake? I think it's not good to try to look perfect. Not every crack has to be like a gunshot.

And even teachers make mistakes. Well, sometimes... :[

All the best, Robby

The screenings an recuts are done now, and Vol. II is complete.
The DVDs are finished and on their way to Midwestwhips.
Now it's on the postal authorities. I just hope it won't take
too long to be there!

It's true - Volume II is in transit, so hopefully we should have them here in the states very soon! We're really excited... :)

As soon as they arrive, we'll let you all know and immediately ship them out to all the people who have pre-ordered.

Thank you Robby, and thanks to everyone who has pre-ordered so far. :whip:

I'll never understand the ways of the postal authorities... The last time I sent a DVD to a customer in England,
it took over two weeks. This time Tony's DVD was there within four days. Well, I hope that the package
with the DVDs into the states is also that fast! I'm looking forward to your comments in the reviews threat :notworthy:
