I took a couple shots of mine tonight for the thread here. I have lots of nice pics of this hat (as well as other gear) but the matter/anti-matter ratio was out of balance and the flux-capacitor overloaded and caused the hyperdrive to go supernova. That was the end of my computer for awhile. For now these will do. I love this fedora. Even after numerous rainstorms, including last weekend's thunderstorm (in November! Took me by suprise!), it holds it's shape.

Is this one of the Curry felts? I will have a Granite that should arrive in about a week. I suspect it might look something like this:

A few facts about JPD....

10 years experience making custom hats.

Originated the "turn" for aftermarket fans.

Jimmy has developed a name for recreating historic hats as well as movie hats, not just recreating the shapes, but researching the proper materials as well.

A question about Jimmy's Orders (because I'm waiting on one of his hats and would LOVE to be one of the folks adding cool photos of his hats onto this thread...)

Back in September I ordered a fedora from Jimmy... after a little bit of back-and-forth "pm"ing - and on Jimmy's suggestion - I decided to order the Cury Felt Raider. (A week or so later, still in September, Jimmy started a thread where he wrote "For the month of October I will give free shipping on my Cury Felt Raider. This means you can get a custom made hat for only $125.") At that point I'm sure many others, like me, ordered one of these hats that Jimmy makes so beautifully.

I'm a pretty patient guy so after I sent him payment I was content to wait until the hat arrived. I'm well aware (from reading previous posts) that communication with Jimmy is tricky anyway unless you just call him on the phone... which, again, wasn't really something I felt it neccessary to do anyway... since my only question for him would be "So... ummm... how soon do you think you'll get to/start on/finish up/mail out MY fedora?" (A question every Hat Vendor here hears way more than they probably like to...)

Anyway, when I read the name of this thread, I thought "Oh good! Some new JP Fedoras are starting to reach their new owners!"

But I guess now I'm asking instead:

Has anybody who ordered their JP's back at the start of October recieved theirs? I thought it would probably be too soon, but back in September Jimmy told me he thought he could get these hats along pretty quickly.

Still patiently waiting, but also a BIG fan of Jimmy's work who can't wait to get his hands on one of his amazing pieces of work!
(Weston, every time I see your hat, I love it more than I did the time before!) :)

So...
I wrote up all that silliness, posted it and THEN read TS's mentioning of the October Cury's...

Thanks for the info though, man...
(Can't wait!)

And let's all swear a solemn oath to post some really great photos of those amazing lids once we get them, okay everybody?

I spoke with him on the phone last night, and he told me that he had been ill this past month. He said the first few orders are going on the block today, 11-12. Since mine is a gray, he had to special order the felt, so he will be working on mine next week.

I just spoke with Jimmy and he said that this Curry batch of felt for the October specials is a little thicker than normal, and he will work the felt to make it even more dense.

Great things are yet to come, so stay tuned....

I have since made a similar hat (no gold) that had hook and eyes and no stiffener. The brim could be let down, and it could be folded flat.

Very nice lids, Jimmy! These with the sky in the background are priceless. I'm still holding out for a charcoal gray or some call it carbon gray, if you might have any to post? This hat might be similiar in color to the Indy train scene in CS.

As I was searching COW, I simply could not find a "definitive" thread, a showcase befitting a guy who has made custom hats and fedoras for more than ten years. It didn't seem fair, so my goal was to put something together that we could contribute to, since the October Curry's are due any time, now. Here's to ya' Jimmy! ;-) :whip:

Scott, the reason there has been no 'definitive thread' is because there are fewer JPD hat owners posting reports in relationship to owners of other hats. Jimmy has been in the business for a long time, but he's not cranked out as many hats under his own flag in comparison to other hat makers in order for folks to show off his wares.

'Fair' has absolutely nothing to do with this what so ever, and it's getting a bit irritating to the group here moderating this section that you seem to think it's a concerted effort to keep Jimmy down. If there was anything further from the truth, it's that supposition, and I really wish you'd stop wandering down that path.

We were the ones who suggested to Jimmy to become an official vendor here. We were the ones who kept Jimmy's work moving to the top of threads if and when someone posted a photo or report of a new hat from Jimmy. We were the ones who kept the hounds a bay when Jimmy went through a quiet time of no deliveries and was resetting up his shop after business at his store front slowed down. etc. etc. etc.

So, if any when someone has something to post, post away, but stop this 'it isn't fair to JPD' when it's an open field, always has been, and no one has had anything to say of late.

Enough, my friend. Please.

If any one else has a sample of JPD's fantastic hats to show, please do so. Let's keep to the rules of 6 posted photos per thread per member, with links to other photos after that, and no more flooding by a single individual. The rule was made for a very good reason, and unless you want to see this site start crashing and/or locking up again. There's a method to the madness around here, regardless of what folks think sometimes. ;-)

Michaelson, I didn't take Texan scott's post as an allusion to a supposed action by mods that was unfair. I wouldn't believe for one seccond that Mods have annything to do with an under-representation of Jimmy's hats, and I do not believe Texan Scott meant it that way. :-k

I read it as puzzlement over the under-representation of such fine hats on these boards and a call to owners to show more pics of these hats so Jimmy's beautifull hats get the attention, from us all, they deserve.

If I am right on this reading, I fully agree: although I do not own one, I think these are realy nice hats and people should post more pictures of Jimmy's fine work :)

Thank you. I couldn't have said it better myself. My only contention was that it makes no difference if 25 different people posted 1 photo of each one of their lids, or if I posted 25 photos of other people's lids. Personally, I don't care if anyone views 25 photos of my hat, or if anyone sees it at all, so much as it is a situation of simply getting the word out there. My intention was just to build a great thread to showcase his work.

Posted: Sun Nov 16, 2008 11:18 pm

The argument is understood, but no more flooding of threads from a single individual. We have rules in place for a reason, and from what I understand from a moderator, those reasons have already been passed along to Scott.

If you want to continue this discussion, please take it to the feedback section where it can be addressed by the webmaster, and out of the public rooms.

Thanks.
