Miller Hats
I was on their website and I thought that the 497 Casual Miller looks pretty decent but I find the picture could be decieving. If anyone has a Miller I would love to see it.
Thanks,
Adam

I've owned a couple in the past, though I no longer have them. After the Stetson 'Temple', the Miller was the first hat we found that worked as an Indy styled fedora.
They're very nice rabbit felt hats, but be careful to not get them wet. The ones I owned tapered something awful after several rainstorms.
Otherwise, I was pleased with their looks and performance.

My Miller hat
I don't remember what it was called. It had a c-crown crease when I bought it. I went with a c-crown to get away from the Indy look. It weathered a storm or two and a year in the back seat of my car. Then I tried rescuing it and re-shaped it as a center crease. But it has too much taper and sits too high on my head. May put a feather in it and dress in lederhosen for a yodler costume next halloween.

Ribbon
It faded. Probbly while riding around in the car. Lots of sun exposure.wannabe wrote:I see what you mean. Did you replace the ribbon or did it fade to that copper color?

My was prebashed to the Indy style. We (meaning Indygear) worked with Miller to get this style offered, as at the time the only game in town was the Stetson.
The ribbon faded first on mine, then the felt....but then at the time it was the only hat I owned, other than my completely worn out Stetson. I eventually replaced it with another Miller, and it tapered after the first rain. I moved on to Akubra, as at that time Fedora and _ were doing their experiments, so we started that project together....

I posted some pics of my LC styled miller over in another thread:

I think it makes a great LC hat! It's about 3 years old, but has seen only minimal wear. It serves it's purpose well when I feel like wearing a LC hat, which isn't often, but does happen.

Brian

With the bashes popped out, the teardrop models have more taper than the open crown model- only buy the open crown model! I have a warm spot in my heart, because Miller was my first fur felt Indy hat, and it had the best color of any hat I've owned. I think about buying another (oversized) and reblocking it 360 stovepipe. It may have a little more front back taper than a Fed 4, (maybe not? I'd love to see an open crown comparison) and slightly thicker felt, but I prefer it's felt to Akubra's although it may shrink quicker. also, the ribbon is not accurate. I'd put spare Fed ribbon and sweat on/in it. I like that hat in your avatar, Adam. I almost sent mine back. Right out of the box I saw the brim had bumps along the edges as if the cutter had the hicups when he or she was cutting it. Kept it, always planning to get an exacto knife to fix it myself but never had the nerve. Didn't wear it long and that's how it ended up in the back of my closet for 2 years, then in the backseat of my car for 1.3thoubucks wrote:With the bashes popped out, the teardrop models have more taper than the open crown model- only buy the open crown model!
