W&G flap stamp- the pic works now!

Greetings, I thought I'd post here the enhanced art I just completed for the Waring and Gilbow logo. I basically tried to match fonts, and was mostly succesful. The "W" and "G" letters however had to be fabricated.

<img src="http://www.imgmag.org/images/paulcrasti ... .jpg"><img src="http://www.imgmag.org/images/paulcrastinate/mkvii.jpg">

Some of my main concerns are as follows. I do not believe my "&" symbol matches exactly. Furthermore, I am uncertain as to the amount of serifs found on the W. If anyone out there has an unissued bag with a sharper stamp, please let me know what needs to be improved.

Thanks!
Paul

PS, Custom stamps to come soon.

That looks great Paul! -I love it!

I absolutely need to have one of those stamps when finished.

How much do you think they'll cost? How much is shipping to Europe (Germany)?

That stamp in my WPG-bag with my MBA-strap and the new buttons I gave it 8) Yeah!!! I gotta have one!

Regards,

Marc

P.S.: I think I can see something like 'MK' right before the 'VII' on the right picture... could it be?!

That would be great! Thanks James. If this is going to materialize into an actual stamp, it'll need to be just right.

I guess the one thing that keeps ringing in the back of my head is this: What if someone were to stamp his or her bag with a W&G stamp and sell it as a W&G stamp, then that would be unethical. Basically my worry is if this got into the wrong hands. Just something to think about.

A few things I could change on the W&G stamp for instance...
1)Perhaps an asterix on the logo.
2)Change one of the dates of the stamp to something more current.
3)Edit the shape of the line that wraps around the "1932 LTD"

I agree with Indiana Texas-girl though. It makes me uncomfortable knowing that if this was made, that someone would unfortunately try to fake a replica bag. I think it would be neccessary to add a symbol, or to change the design slightly if this were to actually be made (see above suggestions).

This raises the question, could the bag, with an altered logo, be faked anyway? Naturally someone believing a WPG bag was an original would not know to look for this difference in the stamp, or any of the differences in the bag itself.

I would like to see this stamp materialize in some fashion, though I am currently working on a COW in the style of the W&G. Still, someone looking to buy a bag that knew little about their history, would still not know the the difference. For example, an unknowing buyer might purcahse a COW stamped bag , thinking it was the real deal. Thus, raising the question: Would any stamp fool the naive customer?

I dunno, what do you think folks?

A while ago I was playing around here with making a stamp for WPG bags. At first I was going for a close-to-authentic look, but encountered a lot of resistance--people were indeed afraid of reproductions being played off as authentic, unissued bags. We here might know the difference, but the multitudes who shop eBay with little information might not. I therefore went entirely for a COW logo stamp that would be just for fun, so our WPG bags could sport something.

I never really got any farther with it, because I was waiting for Renderking's Ford Trimotor logo to incorporate. (I don't know what happened with that, either...)

This is the one I was most happy with:
Image

Borrow from it in good health. .psd files available.

Cordially,

I actually like this one a lot.
I prefer the Flying Boat to the Tri.

It has the Raiders feel as well as Tales of the Gold Monkey that always had a China Clipper.

Where can I get the file?

Very Nice. We just need to get the .psd files up over at the main site. If you'll send them over I'll see to it they get posted.

I will be getting a decent scan of a sharper W&G stamp on tuesday. After that I'll have some (hopefully) more accurate art. Tennessee Harper, any chance you guys might want the W&G art for the main site?
