I really like the 80's fit jacket. I have too much room in the belly with the standard, and I am not a really slim/slender guy. There is a lot of extra leather flapping around when zipped up. I could stand to lose 20 pounds, but still have quite a bit extra "belly" room in the standard. I like that the 80's fit brings the jacket in for a more fitted look. I could imagine how it would not fit all shapes and sizes, but it works for me. I still have a little "belly" room in the 80's cut. It does not give a stuffed sausage look.

The sleeves, while more slender are no problem for me, and still have enough room to gather and wrinkle nicely. Some folks do not like the idea/looks of the 80's fit. I ordered one this year hoping it would correct some of my few personal gripes about the fit of my standard size jacket...It did just the trick as I hoped it would :) .

Matter of personal preference, but the Todd's jacket is more of an 80's cut, slim fitting jacket, while the standard cut is more of a relaxed fit. They both serve their purpose well, just depends on if you like the extra room in the jacket or not? Also, depends upon the look and wear you are striving for, though, entirely up to you.

So, specifically, where is the 80's fit tighter? For ex., is the chest tighter and by how much? Waist? arms?!

Anyone have both std. and '80s in the same size that they can measure? holt?

thanks for any info!

I think the 80's fit is tapered, and tighter around the arms. As to exact dimensions, maybe if you compared a 44 80's to a 44 Standard, for instance, Peter could give you exact measurements? Just a thought.

80's fit or not may depend on how you wear it. Consider that the jacket looks best unzipped. It is simply the coolest-looking leather jacket when it is worn open.

(I know we have seen it zipped in the Raven Bar scene in Raiders, but was it ever zipped in TOD?)

Granted it should fit when zipped, but looser jackets do not give the 'correct' look when they are worn open as there is too much leather on the front panels. in Raiders, there were some major folds and creases that helped that jacket stay open and look cool.

go with the 80's fit if you have a small waist and fuller chest.

if you have a tummy go with a full cut.standard.

I have both an 80's fit custom, and a standard custom Raiders. There is a slight difference and can be a big difference in tightness. My 80's cut jacket is much tighter around the chest and the body than my standard. I like my standard better, because I think it looks more SA that way. It's not extremely baggy, but it is not tight either, it is right in the middle where it should be. :) So I guess it really depends on how tight of a jacket you want. Personally I would go with the standard IMO. But that is just me. ;-)

Keep in mind too that with an 80's fit you can't wear much thick clothing under it. It fits quite snug to the body so the most you could wear is a long sleeve sweater/t-shirt if it isn't too puffy.

I keep my 80's fit for the Fall-like weather and use my Standard (which i can fit a fleece or something under) on the colder days we've been having mixes of.

It sounds like i will go with a standard. I like to wear a fleece vest with my Indy jacket in the winter.

thanks for the info guys! :notworthy:
