Wrangler 2-pleated casual khaki pants at Wal-Mart. Has the gray-taupe hue.

LL Bean Microfiber dress chinos in Taupe, or cotton dress chinos in dark khaki. The taupe is best.

I see the Wal-Mart one on their site but not on the Wrangler site - odd.
What are the SA essential for pants, anyway?

The originals were Noel Howards, 2 pleats, wool, "officers pinks" scolloped flap back pockets, button fly. As to shade, well the best visual reference would be the use of the movie. Everyone seems to have their own take on the shade. For Raiders, somewhere in the range of khaki to a taupe-gray color.

An earlier post asked if the color of these was close. I've heard Officer's Pinks mentioned on COW and wondered if the color of these fit that description.

The "Officer Pinks" on the Orvis page look pretty good. I didn't check to see if they have the button fly. But they are not what I would recommend for someone on a tight budget. Aren't those Orvis pants priced close to a Wested pair or a Platon pair?

While Orvis has nice stuff, you are certainly paying for the Orvis name and any percieved snob appeal which comes with that. I have a long history with Orvis and it's become a "brand" - before it was mostly sportsmen and fisherman who knew about it.

For some cheap but Dead-On high accurate pants check out the pics on this site:

For buying them, type in: "polizeidiensthose" or "Polizeihose" in eBay or google.

I would have to agree with my esteemed colleague from PA. Very comfortable, and I find the color to be an excellent representation of what I think is the Raiders color.

Paris. I know: "How can you say that at that price???" Still, if there anything I've learned over the years it's to buy what you REALLY want and only cry once.

Marc

I bought some random pair of khakis once at a Target, and they worked just fine for me until I got some Wested pants.

I think it's a good idea to have a nice pair of SA pants or shirt, etc., and another pair to knock around in, get dirty, holes, etc. One is for show, the other for more practical purposes, or a pair you don't really care if you rough house with them, etc.

I personally went with the LL Bean taupe chinos but they were still pretty pricey after shipping, $77.00.

Personally, I feel that if price is an issue, wear whatever you have and save for the item that you want. You will probably never be happy until until you the correct item.

I agree with Richard SK, save your money and buy a good pair of pants. I know I wasn't happy until I got a pair of Westeds. Then I was still not happy until I got a pair of Neol Howards pants. It's a sickness with Indy gear. Good luck.
