Removing Shoulder Pads from a Wested
Now I know I've read a few threads on this subject before, but I give up looking for them. The search feature isn't turning up anything.
I've got a Wested goat and I think it fits me pretty well...
I can't say I'm crazy about the shoulder pads though.
I'd like the jacket to drape better and possibly remove the pads, in order to do so.
Do you recommend it and how difficult is it? Or do you think I don't need to, based on how it sits on me?
Thanks.

Eighties fit! Eighties fit! Eighties fit!
Ok now I've got that out of my system.
Turn the jacket inside out, you should find that one of the sleeves has the liner sewn with a running stitch from the outside. (On my custom I'm wearing today it's the right sleeve.)
This can be unpicked and the jacket turned back inside out on itself giving you access to the pads.
If that sounds too scary any alterations place should be able to do it, or even someone who has sewing ability. Heck find a sailor!

After your mentioning the seams, I did just that. I checked out the inside, to see if I had the same thing and I suddenly noticed where the ripping sound I experienced while out in the rain the other night, was actually coming from. I was outside helping our Pizza truck caterers set up a tent, in the rain. i guess I reached up higher than thr jacket normally allows.
There were these two 1" long rips right at the seam of each shoulder to sleeve, where the cotton backing meets the satin sleeve lining... Perfectly placed for reaching in with my fingers and pulling out the little rectangular shaped pieces of foam "pads".
It looks a bit better now. To me anyway. So thanks for the help. I'll ask my wife to sew up the holes.
So, now that you guys are mentioning it, of course I'm second guessing whether I've got goat or not.
I ordered goat, spoke to Gemma to confirm it. After there was a big delay and mix up with their emails, I called a second time and spoke to Peter and he even confirmed I was getting goat. He actually had the phone with him while he was walking around, hand picking each item I ordered, to get them off to me for next day delivery. Gemma had messed up and he was trying to quickly get the order out.
Anyway... The bag that the jacket was in, said goat and the invoice says goat. It even looks like the goat that others have shown pictures of.
I'm pretty sure it's goat.
Yet you guys DO know best, when it comes to what Wested's done in the past. Why would there be the sudden appearence of pads in a goat jacket?

Thanks guys.
Actually, since I've gotten this jacket, I've hardly taken it off. As soon as I get out to leave and from just before jumping into the shower before bed, it's on.
My wife says, "You really like that jacket, huh?" I'm just breaking it in hun, I say.
I'm not gonna' sand away at it or scrape it raw. I washed it in the hot water and rubbed denatured alcohol all over it to get rid of the shine. Now I'll just let use do the aging for me.
I removed the pads, as I mentioned before. Whether they were noticeable or not.. I still felt them. Harrison Ford didn't have shoulder pads, so I'M not having shoulder pads!
Thanks again guys.
