I think this has been discussed here before, but can anyone tell me if putting fuller's earth on your boots is a bad decision? Of course I'm dressing up as Indy this year and I want to have a "dirty" look. Any advise would be helpful. Thanks

I did this over the weekend and the only problem I can see with it is the laces, as they may need to be washed. Other than that, it seems to wipe off quite easily.

I personally don't use Fullers earth on my 405s because it comes off too easily by just sprinkling it on. Now this is just ME, but what I do is wet them down and throw Fullers earth on them to make them more crusted mud like. That is of course AFTER I have sanded them and hiked in them for a long while.

You're right Nibs. New Alden's have a very smooth surface and the FE doesn't cling to it very well. I found myself reapplying it all night long.

 The image of a gearhead walking around with a little powder compact of fuller's earth to "freshen up" is just too funny! I can see me stepping out to powder my hat or my shoes instead of my nose!
