Water on hat in idol temple?

Not sure whether this should go in the hat section or Lao Che's, so mods feel free to move.
When Indy swings across the pit at the beginning of Raiders where did the water on his hat come from?
I've noticed it forever and couldn't figure out where it came from.

There is no ceiling at the top of the pit and in other parts of the temple.

So....is it raining or a leak or something?

Yeah, coming in from the outside. There is obviously no ceiling above the idol and when Indy finds Forrestal on the spikes he also has a decent amount of water dripping on him.

Well, that makes sense. I always noticed the water, and I noticed the lack of ceiling, but I never put the 2 and 2 together since it's not raining.
Thanks agent5.

They had great booby traps, but they were lousy plumbers.

Also in the scene just before the spikes are released, and out comes the remains of Forrestal, as Indy crossed under the light beam, you can see some water dripping from the ceiling. Looks like a few drops splattered on his hat.

Don't forget, he also was just standing next to a waterfall.

True. But when Indy and Satipo first go into to the cave and Indy fills his sandbag, the hat is completely dry.

Because then we'd have no opening scene to Raiders...duh! ;-)

there's a ceiling above the idol, just no ceiling above the pit. Anybody looking down the whole from the ground above would just see a deep hole.
Probably done this way for the lighting of the 'as seen from below' swing across.

How'd the light get in then?

I think there were some slits in the walls to let a little bit of light in. Sort of like the light-traps near the beginning of the temple.

The crew brought them in when they started shooting the scene and cleverly kept them out of the cameras way....

You might be on to something there...

Continuity has not always been as good as it is now. Oh, wait... it's not as good as now, as it is now.

Just a thought here... Shouldn't you expect water dripping down from the ceiling when you are in a cave in a rainforest? I have only been in a few caves in my life and those that had forrests above them were always rather wet. Something to do with roots penetrating the rocks, and the soil above retaining water which will drip through those cracks.
