want to do it right
I'm new to the forum, but have been an Indy fan ever since the original raiders movie. I'm getting ready to order my first Wested Jacket though and would like some input from those who have some experience with them. I liked Indiana John's specs (I think it was his) for the raiders style in authentic brown goat, brass zipper, etc. since I live in NW Oregon and it rairly gets over 80 degrees here. Also I like the durability of the goat since I plan on wearing it in the woods and such. I tried to look up some pics from past posts about the gussets. If anyone can repost those I'd be must appreciative. If I just ask Peter to add gussets will he know what I'm wanting or do I need to provide a more spcific description? Also, because it can be very stormy in this neck of the woods I'm thinking of having Peter add brass press studs to the storm flap to help keep the wind and rain out. I can almost swear that the screen shot from raiders of HF in the temple where he's picking up the golden idol shows a press stud at the top of the storm flap. Am I seeing things or is this true? I do want to keep this jacket as authentic as possible. I can definately see why a person needs a couple of jackets (or even 5 or 6) to cover all the variations. Well, since this is getting a bit long I'll end this here. I'd be thankful for any suggestions anyone would like to offer on my first Wested.
Welcome aboard IndyBill.
No, you don't have to be anymore specific than just asking for gussets, they'll know what they are.
As for the press studs, they weren't on a jacket until the Last Crusade. However, some guys have requested the studs on the storm flap of a Raiders, but to have them hidden. Meaning the female part of the stud is in between the layers of leather on the storm flap and not seen if snapped closed. You may want to do this if you want the studs, but stress the point to keep them hidden.

Thanks. I like the hidden press stud idea. I think the goatskin will stand up to the rigors I'll put it through. My old jacket is an 8yr old cowhide "indy similar" jacket that has served me well through thick and thin. I should be ordering my new Wested next week sometime. I just need to smooth the wife over a bit more first. Wish me luck.

order update
I talked to Peter this morning (afternoon his time) on the phone to make sure my order was recieved ok on his end. He said everything looked fine and my jacket should be ready to ship in about 3 weeks. He did say that the machine that makes the nametags is still out of service and would probably stay that way for awhile due to the cost involved to repair it. Thank you Peter for easing my nervousness. I'll probably still feel a little anxious until I'm wearing my new jacket, but the anticipation is half the fun, right?

Re: first purchase update
Can you explain this one to me? I am reading it that you are getting 3 studs on the storm flap. Please correct me if I am wrong.indybill wrote: Press studs: 3 hidden in storm flap

press studs
Yes, there would be three press studs. The reason I wanted them is because I live near the Colubia River Gorge and the wind can be fierce at times (40mph w/ 60+mph gusts), driving the rain into a person in a horizontal fashion instead of vertically as most people are used to. I know it's not screen acurate, but this jacket will be worn year round in all kinds of weather and I like to be prepared. The studs will be hidden to maintain an accurate appearance though. What can I say, I'm a rebel.
Re: press studs
I was considering this mod as well, until it dawned on me that only the "female" half of the stud is hidden within the storm flap. When the jacket is unzipped, the "male" half of the stud will be visible next to the zipper. Not sure that's a look I want. I'd be interested to see photos if you do wind up having this done, Indybill!indybill wrote:Yes, there would be three press studs.
