Can't say that I have.
But it is 1:30 on a Friday nite and I'm not even sure why I am still awake.

i've seen video's of harrison and spielberg carrying that hat around. it looks like they used it as a "stand in" during rehersal of the "pick up the hat from the grownd" shot.
you can see it on the "hat and and jacket" video on the official site

That hat also has no lining, if it is the same one seen in the behind-the-scenes videos. The book, by the way, is wonderful.

It's a great book! David James is an amazing photographer! I highly recommend the book to anyone that enjoys great photography even if you didn't care for KotCS which, incidentally, I really enjoyed.
I was hesitant to post this image due to possible legal issues, forum and LF, but as I seem to recall, a few pics were posted of the Indiana Jones Journal earlier in the year...
The picture you are interested in is a two-pager so I didn't want to crush the binding to get the whole picture on my flat bed though the composition of the whole picture is excellent which you'll see when you buy the book! Here's the half you were MOST interested in.

Junior

Anyone know the story behind the ribbonless fedora?
John, how'd you come to notice that aberration?

Wha?
I'm not certain but I'd say that the ribbonless hat was used for color/lighting correction purposes while setting up. Once they're ready to film they just hand over the hero hat.

I just don't under stand why they would have a hat without a ribbon. Why not use the hero hat???

It was probably assigned for this very purpose and taken with them to all the sets where the hat would be featured, same as the hero hats.

And without a ribbon there is no danger of it getting into a shot!

That's probably why both the ribbon and the lining were removed-- to make sure it woulldn't get mixed up with the hero hats.

Maybe that is something on the side of the car?

Nope, it's his back pocket turned inside out. Pretty sure the Russians frisked Indy and Mac before tossing them in the trunk.
I would have.

Well, if it's a bow, it's on the wrong side of the hat!

Maybe it was reversed specially for flopped shots?(a floppy hat?

I'm not sure if it's a bow, but it's a ribbon for sure. May be Ford bashed the hat in the wrong side??

As long as they don't have creepy crawly legs, multiple eyes and breathes fire......no, I NEVER 'see things'....

That hat in that pic definetly has a ribbon. The hat shown on the dvd that is lying on the ground has no ribbon and is not one of ours. It was there as a standin. I can't believe you guys can't see the ribbon on the hat above. Save the pic, and then zoom in. It is plain as day. Fedora

Well, speaking for myself, it really doesn't matter one way or the other. I only commented on the bow location post...but to honest, Steve, on this flat screen monitor I'm viewing this photo on, it's NOT as evident to me as it is to you....but you being the hatmaker of record and looking at this day in and day out, you DO see that ribbon as plain as day. ;-)
I still wish SOMEONE would respond as to whose hat it is that stood in for yours, though. I've asked that before, and to date have never received a reply. Do we know?

Since the hat is in shadow, there doesn't seem to be much contrast, so it doesn't look like there is a ribbon. I can see where there might be a ribbon, but I wouldn't swear by that photo.

I don't see a ribbon. Then again, I saw a hat in Indy's closet in Raiders
viewtopic.php?t=9830&start=0 Anyone have a picture of that hat in Indy's closet in Crystal Scull? Made me think GL read that post.
--- Didn't notice that cracked window on the Ford in the film.

Maybe Baron's did get a hat used in the film?

I don't think there was an argument in that regard....it was the fact he implied to have made ALL the hats that got him in hot water.

It was my implication that one of thier hats made it to the filming that that I hoped would start a riot here ;-) .

I've increased the size of the image, and though I hate to disagree with Steve, I'm not convinced that there is a ribbon on it.
Due to the large size, here's a link to it rather than posted.

I'm sure it is, especially when you're not the one who has to go into the sections and clean out all the trash that the moderators do after someone decides to 'shake things up'.
;-)
Just kidding, of course....

Well as Steve said all the hats had ribbons, but maybe this one got removed during filming. While on set a lot of things happen in movies on the fly for reasons that don't normally get discussed because they were just needed at one moment and not as part of a major grand scheme.
It's possible that the CGI team asked for one of the hero hats to have the ribbon removed for their purposes, whatever reason that may be. I do know that when the had was first tossed out of the truck it was quite crushed so maybe the had just got damaged by the crush and the ribbon came off due to the abuse after a few takes.

I can't actualy see the ribbon itself in that pic, but I do see the shadows it casts where it isn't touching the felt near the side dent of the bash.
