What happens when a hat is re-blocked?

Post by JeffB »

I have a vintage dobbs hat that I am interested in getting re-blocked. What all happens when you get a hat re-blocked? Does the ribbong get taken off? Does the sweatband and liner come out? If so, are they usually replaced or just cleaned up and put back in?

Thanks

Depends. For a vintage hat, I imagine they'd probably just put the same ones back in the hat - no need to mess with it's age. Otherwise, generally they will replace them, unless you request otherwise - for example, when I got my old AB reblocked, I asked Steve to replace the ribbon (as I bought mine before he'd sourced the original ribbon), but to otherwise not replace the roan sweatband or the liner. Nevertheless, you might want to specify to them that you want them to not replace the original details of the hat. -M

This al depends on what you want and what is needed. If the parts are in good enough shape and can be used again. Then I would use them. maybe some parts can be saved but others can't.

A re-block is where the parts are taken out. The body is pulled on the block just like a new one and goes though most of the steps of e new hat.
