Not to say that Todd's isn't a real jacket but I'm wondering if I should just get a real (being very durable and for everyday use and for general studliness) leather jacket that happens to look very close to an Indy jacket.

I mean I guess I wouldn't mind so much.. I'm not after SA everything other than the fedora (Fed IV on the way woohoo) for the one or two days a year I might dress up. Todd's would be cheaper but it would be a closet piece out of fear of ripping it.

I'm of course mixed so nothing set in stone.

Price range would probably be around $300? I don't know anything about leather jackets like that though

Maybe from US Wings?

I'm looking at US Wings and I was seeing that their A-2 collection (can't tell the difference between them) have elastic cuffs and waisted which is something I'd want.

What's the most durable/everyday jacket material?

Kinda talking to myself here as I look on but the Signature Series™ Goatskin A-2 2000 is really appealing to me. Very Indy like (right?) and has side pockets like a modern jacket.

Sounds like it doesn't matter to you what you get so get any jacket made by a decent company. Wings is fine. Gibson & Barnes may be somewhat better. You're in the wrong place if you can't tell an A2 from an Indy and in may ways I'm envious of you...

Oh no the obvious bits such as the elastic cuffs/waistband, sidepockets are easy to spot. Those are just things I'd like in an everyday jacket. Little nitpicks I don't have an eye for. Like I'm not sure if the Indy one has a button on the neck/bottom or not etc..

Would the elastic cuffs/waistband look totally silly or will it blend in to the unsuspecting (fanatic like me/us) eye?

Does goatskin drape?

Of course. That's all I'll do. Again (I did tons of research 5 months ago and forgot most of it).

Oh, and by the way, when you write posts at 1 a.m. and later, don't expect too many replies. This being a U.S. based forum, most of us are in bed at that time. ;-)

Either a Wings jacket, or a Wested (even custom) will fill the bill at the price range you've quoted.

The A2 2000 is a GREAT jacket. I've owned one in horsehide, and was more than pleased with it's construction and over all appearance. You have narrowed it down to one of their best, and functional too with the side entry pockets.

I think that I should really go with functionality. I mean it DOES still look like an Indy jacket especially to people who have never thought about it once. I can always just tuck in the cuffs and/or get a costume jacket later on. Is the 2000 really comfortable?

I have a wested and it's very functional and a good jacket,plus wings makes indy jackets they are well made and everyday useful too, wings A-2's are very good too, I have a horsehide from them, good luck.

Yes, the A2 2000 is VERY VERY comfortable, but then it's the civilian version of the standard A2 and therefore a bit more roomy for ease of motion.

Actually, you'd still be 'Indy related', as the original conceptual art of Indy had him wearing an A2. ;-)

Exactly..

I just think it'd be silly for me to get a jacket that wasn't comfortable.. mainly because of my short arms relative to jacket size

In this case the A-2 2000 wouldn't be screen accurate because it has elastic sleeve cuffs and waistband... shoulder straps and maybe some other details.



Anyway tonight I went to check out leather jackets. I tried on a 2xl A-2 since they didn't have L or XL and the sleeve cuffs were WAY too loose.. I'm kinda scared the XL's would be as well so I'm thinking about just getting an L.

I'm kind of a fat guy (not too fat) but I do plan on losing 30 pounds (it's not an option either I'm GOING to do it). I tried on some suit jackets and it looks like I'm between a 42S and a 44S.

I looked on US Wings website and it says that sizing for the Large would be a 42 or 44 but doesn't leather shrink? Should I get an XL?

My current shirt size is a 17 (or 17.5 for real comfort) but again, GOING to lose weight.

I think the wings run in number sizes for the A-2's,go horsehide and it will last you a life time.

Well the have S, M, L, XL etc...

I tend to exaggerate my weight when buying clothes and always get XL but it didn't dawn on me tonight to just try on my dad's coat which is a L and it fits fine..
I just saw countless threads saying Wings' coats run very large so an L should be fine I think.

I looked again, the milatry jackets run in # size and the A-2 2000 run in letter.

Will this jacket (the A-2 2000) look black in person?

It's a dark brown but I'm worried it'll look black
