On the Wested Website, it states that the tie came "from the manufacturer" of the original tie seen in LC. Is this true?

I bought one of Noel's LC ties back in 2000. It is an excellent quality tie, manufactured by a company called Atkinsons. It comes with a little green card which contains a brief history of Irish poplin, from which the tie is made.

Then, I guess it is safe to assume that this is that same kind of tie?

There's a link to Atkinson's, where you can still buy the tie.

i have the tie. i have no reason to believe that its not the real deal.
magnoli does offer a very nice replica of it though as well.

yeah, I not questioning its authenticity, I just wanna know a little more about it. And I do have the magnoli, which is also great!!

Gezzz guys, I hate to tell ya this but that tie looks no different ~at all~ than the G.I. ties I was issued in the Army. I'd wager a trip to your local Army surplus store would put you into possession of one for five bucks or less.

Well, thats what it is supposed to be right, an officer's tie?

The tie I have is an ROTC issue tie that my buddy (who was in ROTC) gave to me.

He was given 2, and I kept asking to borrow it and he had to keep saying no, and then when they gave him another one for who knows why, he dumped it on me!
But thanks to this thread, I may be getting an original MkVII (or "Mk V11" as the site calls it) from the NH stock. Hmmmm!

I think I recall Noel saying when I got my tie that it was from the original manufacturer.

Speaking of ties, they are easy to pick up at the navy px if you have access to one, got my tie there, and it looks awesome with my magnoli shirt.

PM me if you want.

Not to bug you PLATON but syntetic fibers are completely different from Irish Poplin that Noel sold. It's like comparing an Adventurebuilt beaver and Disney Wool Hat.

Here's a US Army issue wool tie, standard issue to all ranks. Looks right to me. What do you think? Wool GI tie $8.50 Linen tie $85.00

Looks "right" to me......No Army/Navy stores in my area, where can you find one of these? I've tried a google search, but nothing readily turns up.
Thanks!

Yeah, I hope my order goes through. I paid with paypal and then the scree froze so I had to exit out. When I checked paypal, the money was sent to Wested but I recieved no confirmation from them. So I emailed Gemma and now I must wait several days to get a darn reply. Why does it take them so long to answer their emails?

Does anybody else offer the Atkinsons black irish poplin tie? Preferably in the states, or even better, NYC. I know Sam Hober offers one, but I'd like one for Halloween.

A lot of people have been having this problem. Best thing to do is usually to phone them.

Man, that *****...those ties were the best deal they had on there. I just couldn't believe it. $40 for an $80 tie...wow! Thanks Noel!

That's what I thought.
But again, with Noel passing on, Peter could have easily raised the price on these, as they are the last of the bunch.
A lot of unscrpulous dealers would not hesitate to do that.
So i believe it is to Peter's credit that he didn't.
Despite the email communications that Wested seem to be having, it is things like this that show their true character.
And we can only be gratefull for that.

I own Magnoli's $30 officers tie. I'm happy with the quality of it, and it is made with synthetic microfiber, but looks just like poplin. Infact, here is a photo from Magnoli's site that has his tie over the real poplin:
I'm wondering if anybody owns both and can confirm that they are as identical as they appear. If anything, I would think that Magnoli's would have a bit more sheen than the actual Atkinson's and might also appear slightly darker, but NOBODY will be able to tell the difference I would guess, unless they were holding one to the other.

$40? Are you kidding? They were £35 last time I checked on Wested website.

With all due respect, a microfiber tie is still not a natural fiber tie. I personally feel it's a bit inappropriate or anachronistic to have man-made fibers in a reasonably accurate indy costume.
Is Atkinsons' silk and wool fabric rare or something? If Noel could offer it at a reasonable price, I'm guessing there should be other vendors who offer it at a decent price, although I couldn't find many on the web.
That being said, maybe this is just another reflection of Noel and what kind of guy he was.

Here's a Black Lamswool tie that might do the trick, and only $25:

He was indeed a great person and I've never found Irish Poplin ties cheaper than what he offered. With that said, the silk irish poplin was the same texile used for the pope night clothing in past times, the highest quality silk ever.

I was just wondering if Indy is wearing the same tie in Venice?
Because that one looks red in some of the photographs and black in others...
Could that be an effect of the light on the poplin?

These are handmade in the US from the same Atkinsons poplin, believe this vendor is on the Fedora Lounge. (but notice price is higher than Wested was offering the NH gear at)

The NH ties came in an Atkinsons wrapper, so presumably made by them.

Would this one be a suitable alternative? I can't tell is the weave is too thick. Good price though.

From the look of it... yes, seems to be pretty close.
I found a Saville Row tailor who also sell these kind of ties, I'll see if I can find it again
