The width of the brim on my AB is abit too broad.. i was wondering if anyone has trimmed there AB? the main concern i have is will the part of the brim i just cut start to fray or will it hold its shape just the same as the un-cut part of the brim?

any answers appreciated

I trimmed an AB a few weeks ago, because it was too wide front to back. It won't fray at all, but it will look pretty crisp. After you trim it, take some very fine fine sandpaper and lightly rub the edges to fluff them up a bit like the rest of the brim. You'll see what I mean after you start trimming it.

Another recommendation is to take a piece of chalk and draw a light line on the brim where you want to cut it. It's helpful for keeping your cutting consistent.

I didn't trim my AB, but did trim both my Federation and my Magnoli HJ.

Basically, I followed the advice given above by McFly and it worked out fine.


Just remember, you can always trim off more, but it's not so easy putting it back on!

And make sure you use sharp fabric scissors! The chalk line is a must, in my book, and you should cut on the outside of the line. Take your time, too. As crazy as it sounds, I'd also start out by cutting only 1/16 of an inch and then wear it like that for a couple days or a week. 1/16" is a lot more than you might think on a hat brim. You might get used to it at that point and feel like there's nothing more to trim. If it's still too big for you by then, then go another 1/16". Rinse, repeat. Tron's right, you can take it off, but you can't glue that felt back on.

Wow, you guys are all much braver than I am, just the thought of trimming down my own hat makes me cringe. What if I were to cut off too much? I would be the first one on my block to be sporting a Indy yarmulke!!!!!
