Approximately 2 1/2 years ago I started wearing a fedora. Now I’m thinning. Has anyone else seen this correlation on their own head? Does wearing a fedora start the trend that you will have to wear them?

Hmmm…I’m sensing something diabolical afoot. If I were a hat maker, this would be the outcome I would want to ensure future business.

No, at least not in my case. I've been wearing fedoras everyday for over 38+ years, and my hair is as thick (if not THICKER) than it was when I was in high school, requiring haircuts about every 2 weeks to keep my hats from getting too tight.

I'm just kidding, actually I have the reverse problem... I suddenly started wearing hats a lot more after my hair began to thin...

My balding spot comes from constantly banging my head against the wall after a day of moderating this place.

i have been wearing a fedora since 83 and when i stopped wearing it for a few years in the 90's i started to lose my hair (maybe i should have kept wearing) but no i blame my mom genes --- im a baldy but i look good bald --at least what the ladies tell me --- when i go out to the club and they kiss my chrome dome --- right now tho i grew out the side of my head for my indy costume for halloween .

If your emoticon is accurate, the forehead is a pretty strange spot to have hair growing from in the first place, so maybe consider yourself lucky.

I've been sporting all manner of hats since high school back in the 70's. Twenty years in the Army, hats and helmets all day every day. Still sporting headgear and I've no problem with my hair except the rising cost of a simple hair cut! As I understand hair loss the Nr.1 cause is genetics. Nr.2 would be a scalp disease.

I doubt it about the fedora,it's in the gene's my dad is bald and my grandpa mom's dad was bald too, so I was doomed from the get go.

Crikey!,now I've got one more thing to worry about! ..could be true,but I'm guessing if that was the case then surely hair-loss would be rampant in the armed forces and police where they wear hats all day everyday?(and what about the 30's/40's where everyone wore hats all the time?)

If you're going to worry about this, you must lead a very dull life indeed! ;-)

Balding is purely genetic friends!

I'm like you Michaelson, I think my hair is actually getting THICKER. Those are my Welsh genes, as my mother tells me...

Careful what you wish for. It's easy with a full head of hair to say things like that, but I promise you the tune very quickly changes once you notice the receding hair line or seeing a lot more scalp than you used to. ;-)

I think that's an old wive's tell that wearing a hat speeds up the process--something about the heat buildup or something. If that's the case then a fedora would be better than a ball cap because it's taller.

I'm pretty sure it's all genetics. My hair's thinning so I guess it can go out in style under my fedora.
