hi there folks, received my wested pants a little while ago and noticed that they are dry clean only. have any of you ventured to launder them in the washing machine. If so what were the results and can you recommend as dry cleaning is a bit pricey!

I wash my Westeds myself and they turn out fine, but then again, I have mine torn and stained with blood for SA. But still, they don't seem to get messed up or anything.

You can wash them, but make sure it's a woollen cycle and a cool wash. Beware! They may shrink, they may also end up loosing their shape a little and become 'slouchy' actually they will look more SA but technically you will have ruined them!

Proceed at your own peril!

I washed mine on wool cycle, cold water wash/rinse, with woolite, then hang dry. The trousers weren't ruined, but the length did shrink up almost 2 inches, resulting in me having to have them re-hemed. I don't think I'll wash them again, as I'm concerned about further shrinkage; there is only 1/2" of hem left.
Dry cleaning only from now on, with a request that no creasing be done.

I've washed mine (together with my Magnoli wool pants) on cold/delicate and tumbled them dry in a low heat dryer and suffered no ill effects.

They ended up a lot softer and a little fuzzier but they seem a lot more like adventure pants now, and less like a plain pair of dress pants.

Don't risk washing them on your own. Dry clean only - it's worth the money.

There's not much to see in "before" and "after" pics. The pants look exactly the same, they just feel a little different.

Oog. I wore mine to WDWs Halloween party, and washed them afterward.

I washed them in cold water, and they've shrunk at LEAST 2 inches and are IMO totally ruined. I didn't even think about dry cleaning, which is how I clean all 'dress' pants.

Now off to find a suitable replacement pair before Halloween. I would just buy another Wested pair, but won't till later, cause they won't make it here by the 31 st

In that case buy 2 inches bigger so next time you wash them no problem. *joking*

Now that gives me an idea: mine are slightly too wide

Will washing the wool slacks at home cause the waist line to shrink as well?

Because I just got my pants from Wested (They're the wool NH version) and I haven't hemmed them yet, but I'd like to break them in and possibly get rid of the sharp crease in the pants legs.

The waist fits me fine right now, but I won't do anything to them if the waist shrinks after going through the wash.

Definately take care if you wash them. I've washed mine twice now and the length shrunk up both times in a cold water wash and hang dry. The waist, oddly enough, didn't appear to change at all, that I noticed. I'll not wash them again, as there is no hem left to alter longer if they shrank again. I'll only get them dry cleaned from now on and request no crease be pressed in them.
One great thing about washing them once or twice is the material is nicely broken in and drapes quite well.

No, the waist didnt shrink, I just lost about 4 inches on length (the pants, not me. Well, maybe I did after I saw what I did...).

It also screwed up the appearance of the sewed pattern on the pants. A total $140 screw up.

This is horrible. What kind of pants are these things? I mean, what are they ade out of that you can't even cold wash and hang to dry?

Sounds like you should buy them long, don't hem, wash twice then hem for the right length. They won't keep shrinking, right?

Mine are the Wested Indy pants. I should have realized that they should be dry cleaned only. I own much cheaper pants that I dry clean only, and why I had a moment of stupidity to throw them in the wash is beyond me.
