The first link makes reference to 1936 & 1957. This reminds me of the Camptown? Are these hats Spanish made or imported? Just curious.

They are made in Argentina by fans. They order hats from the Argentinian factory Lagomarsino
www.lagomarsino-hats.com.ar
This is the hat as they receive from the factory:
Then they modify the hat to obtain an Indy hat (dimensional cut, new ribbon...)
Here's the final result:

Well, I have some of them...
![Image](http://img510.imageshack.us/img510/8448/e1hc8.th.jpg)
In fact, Dewijones and me have been making them for our pals at the Spanish Indy Forum.
http://www.indianajones.es/foroindy/index.php
I've never offered them here, cause at COW there are lots of great hatmakers, and I thought you didn't need any more.
Besides that, I've always encouraged people to get Adventurebilts and Magnoli's HJ, which are, IMO, the hats you can get.
I also think Lee Keppler's, JPDs, Camptowns (and maybe I'm forgetting someone), though I don't owe them, are well worth lids, too.
Thanks for asking, anyway. If anyone was interested, you're welcome, of course.
Maybe you're right about the crown to be a little taller (5 3/4"), we are working on that.
We are using Hare felt, which is some thougher than rabbit.
We get the felt from Lagomarsino, and we work on the blocking.
In fact Lagomarsino doesn't have models with that block shape.
We also use Petersham ribbons.
Here are some more pics:

Our linings for the 36 and 57 models:

And this is the traslation of the Spanish Web:
"Explorador" (Steele & Jones)
It's a Fedora make by fans, for fans. It was born at the Spanish Indy-Forum, made by Harry Steele & Indiego Jones -members of it-, with the help of many others members, aswell, who aided with ideas & opinions.
This hat is the result of many hours of study, search and tests, tying to get a high quality and though hat, at the lowest cost possible, which could be creased in the Raiders or Crystal skull shape.
They were looking for the best fedora you would dare to wear in your travels, without having to be watching after it all the time cause of its cost.
The felt is made by Lagomarsino, the most ancient and traditional Hat Makers in Buenos Aires, Agrentina (since 1891).
Harry & Indiego block the hats, sew the Petersham lace and bow, and place the linner. After this, they crease the hat in the particular model you are looking after.
Explorador '36 (Raiders-Brown)
Explorador '57 (Crysytal Skull-Brown)
Viajero '36 (Raiders-Grey)
Viajero '57 (Crysytal Skull-Grey)
Material:
100% high quality hare felt.
They are made in all sizes from 54 to 64
Price:
U$D 145 + shipping
To buy:
You may contact them sending an e-mail:
Harry Steele (Roberto O'Brien -me-): odo1978bis@yahoo.com.ar
Indiego Jones (Diego): dewivillar@hotmail.com
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Evaluation:
Positive: Great creased, both Raiders or Skull. High quelity but soft touch felt. Highest price/quality. Easy communication with vendors. Many payment options.
Negative: None yet.

Well, thanks.
We are making this as a hobby, and for the fun.
of course, ours is far from being the ultimte Indy hat, but we weren't looking for that neither.
Just looking for an Indy-like fedora, not very expensive.
There were two reasons to start this project:
-Buying hats from oustide is very expensive in Argentina, cause of the so expensive taxes we have to pay, and that makes most hats almost unaffordable for the regular guy here.
-Many friends had already bought HJs, but they didn't want to risk them, and also didnt' want to be all the time looking after their hats instead of enjoying their travels and holidays.
So, if you like them, fine. Thanks.
If you don't, fine too.

Odo, why the factory can't make the dimensional cut for you? It's not difficult for a professional I think.

Those hats look great! The bashed crowns on the examples being worn in the big pics don't look too tall to me.

It have a tall crown, but, maybe could be because the size I wear is 60 (I made a mistake in taking the measurement when I ordered) really I need 59 or 58.
The model I wear is Explorador 36 with a Raiders style.
Maybe Odo could explain you better the features of the felt and the details of the modeling (they did a very deep study of the details of the fedora before did the prototype).
I can say that the felt is premium quality, I put it under the rain, I left under direct sun, I had put it in the bottom of a luggage and never lost the shape neither shrink.
I took this photo after put the hat in the bottom of my luggage in my travel to Paris, you can see the hat doesn't loose the shape.

I asked them if could be done, when I wanted they to do the hat, but they were no interested in Indy hats at all.
They have a few models, and are only interested in making them.
This is the closest to an Indy Hat they offer, and is pretty awful. In fact, I'd preffer a Dorfman Pacific.
![Image](http://img214.imageshack.us/img214/9341/02originaloa7.th.jpg)
(this was the first hat I owned)
So I buy the felt to them. I've got a friend there that helps with the blocking, and then me and Diego (the guy in the Machu Picchu pictrures) do the rest of the job.

You guys are doing a good job. I think it is time, or you might say past time that members knew of this viable option? In order to help members make decisions, can you give some information about the time it takes to make one, shipping fees to the US, etc.? What kind of leather is the sweat band? Could you also post a few additional photos of the grey fedora?

Here's a translation from the original site:
"a fedora made by fans for fans. Emerged from the forum of this website as a creation of Harry Steele and Jones-Indiego members of the same-with the cooperation of the members who were leaving their opinions.
The fedora is the result of countless hours of study, research, and testing to achieve a durable and high quality at the lowest possible cost, to respond faithfully to the style and Raiders Crystal Skull (models that share many similarities, starting with the use of the same block).
The premise was that had done the best that a fedora be encouraged to carry on their travels, yet without being the same for its high economic value or its difficulty to restore.
The pre-molded Felt comes from the factory Lagomarsino, the home of more traditional hats of Buenos Aires, Argentina (since 1891).
Harry Indiego work in it and re-blocking, reducing the thickness of felt, changing the ribbon and tie the original and finally he put the white jacket with his distinctive logo in gold. At the end of this work will shape it according to the style in particular is chosen."

Thanks Piker, Tex, Holt, Satipo and the other guys...
Like I said, we are making this as a hobby and for the fun, so we are making them in our spare time, and our waiting time is about 6 weeks (could be less, but I preffer to say 6 weeks, and then, if it is less, much better).
Shipping to the USA & Canada is U$D22, and can be tracked.
There's another shipping option (Air Mail) , but it is more expensive.
We use the same grey felt for our 36 and 57 models. In fact, I like it more for the Raiders. I ain't sure which is the right colour for the '57, so I'm posting pics of it under different lights.
![Image](http://img513.imageshack.us/img513/795/clipperna2.th.jpg)
This 57 is the very same hat, different light conditions:
(Note: This was the Prototype, and it has a wrong ribbon, which also is too narrow -35mm. It was replaced for a more suitable 39mm later)
![Image](http://img513.imageshack.us/img513/1655/6viajeroluznaturalwr7.th.jpg)
![Image](http://img513.imageshack.us/img513/1770/7viajeroluzartificialak7.th.jpg)
![Image](http://img513.imageshack.us/img513/2363/laverdadelamilanesafx0.th.jpg)
To be honest, the sweat band is what I like it the less. It's made out of black cowhide, very thin. Maybe in the future we'll replace it, but it's the one we are using nowadays.

Odo, they are really nice. the explorador 37 photo posted in that spanish forum almost looks like an AB

that is a true raiders shape!
I think your hats could be a very good choice for somebody who wants a good hat and doesn't want to wait too long and spend too much. like the christy's.
you really should do some advertising. don't be shy
![Razz :P](./images/smilies/Indy%20-%20Tongue.gif)
yes, maybe there are other hats which are much better in quality and all, but your prices are very good and your Explorador could really be nicknamed "the AB of the poor"

Are they really only 99 Euros?!!! They are good looking hats, and I for one like the taller crown. I think it's very Raiders (I'm thinking Waterfall Bash tall here). How much would it cost to ship from Argentina to the UK?

Hi, Montana...thanks for looking. I think shipping is €18 to anywhere in Europe. (At least we've sent hats to Spain, Italy and Switzerland, and that was the rate).
I'll ask, and then I will confirm you.

The hat I bought from Darth-Ming arrived today. I am very impressed with the color and material used. I bought this hat used from him so it has seen some wear. There is no obvious deficiencies visible to the hat. I must assume that it will stand up well. The hat is soft compared to my Fed IV and two Akubras. It's taller than either, but I like that. It arrived with a Raiders bash. The dent in the top is a little deeper than I'd like but I have come to believe this is an affect of the height of crown. I will be wearing it to Walt Disney Word latter next month, I plan on giving it a beating. I'll report back in early December. Photo's will be posted soon.
