Need help with pineapple knot

Does anybody have a tutorial on how to tie one of these http://www.midwestwhips.com/images/Spec ... y%20D.html pineapple knots? Or if anyone could post some pics explaining it, that would be great too. Also I have Ron Edwards' book but it does not show how to make the third pass, if I'm not mistaken.

Any help on this would be great.

Do you mean that particular interweive? :) Paul calls it a box interweive, it's a basic 7x6 knot..

Hope that helps

I wouldn't have known that is a 7x6. I guess it was the second pass with a different color that was throwing me off. What a newbie I am :) Pretty knot though.

Then you'll either need to speak to Paul very nicely (If it was an unknown knot I'd be more than happy to sit and work the unders and overs out for you but thats kinda Paul's signature knot, if your already ok with the 7x6 it wouldn't take too much working out) or join the Yahoo group knottyers the interweive is on there.... I'd go the courtesy route myself but it's up to you....

Best Wishes

Paul learned the knot from one of the Australian Whipmakers and Plaiters Association journals. Instructions for the knot were published in two of the journals, the second time featured more instructions.

You might be able to work the knot out for yourself if you look at it as a variation of the 'herringbone' knot as described by Bruce Grant. The foundation of the knot is a 7x6 turk's head, and the interweave starts out like the herringbone interweave, except that middle row of zig-zags (lacking some technical terms there :-k ) is swapped out for the box pattern.

To get the box pattern instead of a zig-zag, you have to go over more strands when working up, and go under more strands when working down. It's the light-colored strand going up and over more strands that makes the inside of the box. I think if you do some experimentation and keep looking at the pic of the box pattern knot, you should be able to figure it out.

If you don't know the difference between a herringbone knot and a pineapple knot, then you really have to get Bruce Grant's book, "Encyclopedia of Rawhide and Leather Braiding."
