FYI, WPG has two holsters for sale that may do for those looking.

http://onlinemilitaria.net/shopexd.asp?id=3717
for a UK officer style holster

and

http://onlinemilitaria.net/shopexd.asp?id=3736

for their Indy-style holster.

Hope this is useful.

Peace.

Oh I agree Herr Doktor, but it might meet someone's needs at that price point.

Peace.

I'd agree with you...except for the fact that Todd's got better looking (and based on past experiences...better built) holsters for $29.95 (as opposed to $48 or $38 respectively). Just my opinion, OMMV.

Herr Doktor:
Will Todd's holster fit a .45 cal 1917 S&W with a 4 1/2 inch barrel?

seems like these are made for REAL guns hence the longer barrels

So ... yes? A S&W with a 4.5" barrel will fit?

Don't know. But, it seems to me that if someone has that nice a firearm, they'll spend a bit to getter better quality than Jerry's typical faire.

BTW...I've been buying from WPG/Jerry Lee for the better part of 10 years. I 've seen some good stuff come from his place, and some very bad stuff come my way from him. Typically, his gear is lacking compared to his clothing/uniforms. But I must say he does have some fantastic customer service.

Interesting. So you don't recommend the WPG holster but you do recommend the Todd's?

I have the Todd's. Just received it within the last week. From what I've seen and handled, it feels and looks solid. A caveat, though...I purchased it to carry an airsoft, not a real firearm. Please bear that in mind.

As for WPG, I have not handled their latest offering (and probably never will). I only have past experience to go on. Jerry has some great prices for original uniforms and equipment. However, his reproduction stuff is lacking, in my mind. Plus, those holsters look just plain fugly.

If you are looking for an Indy/Raiders holster for a real S&W, check around the forums for other threads on holsters. Based on other posts, I'd consider spending the money for an AB, or a custom made one, before buying one of the WPG holsters.

Sound advice, thank you. I have an original holster made for the 1917 .45 but it bares no resemblance to an Indy holster.

Seems like US holsters from that period mostly resembled a cavalry type, while WWI era British holsters was the Indy styled, Webley holster. As you may know, since Raiders was filmed in England, the clothes and outerware was outsourced there, hence the 'officier's pinks' etc., and British military styling.

As Indy served with both Belgian and Brit forces in WW1, and the Belgium Army received a lot of Brit equipment later in the war in makes since that Indy would have some "left overs." The officers pinks are decidedly a US item. US Army officers had to buy their uniforms and could opt for the pleats (cuffs as well) if they so desired. I read somewhere that the costume designer based Indy's trousers on a pair of WWII US Navy officers trousers.
