How does my Wested's fit look to you?

Post by Kokopelli »

This is my Wested Custom LC Horsehide, 44L size. - What I'm wondering mostly is how does the back look, as far as fit goes? It just feels like the back is too wide to me and want a second opinion. (my wife is no help). Also, the front seems too narrow. Picture the jacket as a tube or a cylinder and the sleeves are sticking off the sides of the cylinder. To me, it seem that the sleeves are rotated to the front of the jacket, off center on each side. When I have it zipped up, I can't raise my arms up without it pulling the arm/chest seam tight. -Is this just how Westeds' are cut?
In comparison, my US Wings VIP is 'even'; ie, the sleeves seem to be right along the sides of the 'cylinder'. It is a Large Long. Interestingly, both jackets measure exactly the same armpit to armpit. There is one inch more as measured from the armpit seam to the center on the Wings' chest. The Wings also doesn't seem as wide in the back -regardless of the narrower cut back piece- I mean total width.
Here are some photos for your enjoyment and criticism! Oh yeah, neither are meant to be SA fitting either.

The wested to me looks a tad bigger but not by much,it may be an optical illusion, but other wise you have 2 fine looking jackets, and to quote"both will be hard working and serve you well."

I think that what you are experiencing with the sleeves is just a part of the cut of the LC jacket. their Raiders jackets don't have this. As far as I know the LC jacket is also a little wider in the shoulders, so that may explain your feelings on it being a bit too wide.

Would you be mad if I tell you that I think the Wested suits you better than the US Wing ?

Just my opinion. ;-)

They look equally good to me. I would wear the Wested a bit and see if you get used to it. You may just be used to the cut of the Wings. Cheers

Both jackets look like they fit well. I REALLY like the horsehide more and more.

The Wested looks to be a bit fuller cut at the back/shoulders; whereas the US Wings fuller cut at the chest.

The fuller cut at the back/shoulder actually may work in your favor as it should make the horsehide more comfortable/wearable as opposed to a more fitted cut.

Nope, not at all, I like it the best, too, but was thinking the Wings cut fit better. -Which is why I wanted expert opinions!

I actually have only been wearing the Wested, the Wings is unworn in the closet, aside from 'publicity photos'. My former love was an early 90's Cooper that I horizontally outgrew.

I have to say it definately looks wider altogether, both at the shoulders and at the bottom. I've only owned a wested, and I've never gotten a very good look at my back while wearing it (or any other time for that matter.... :-k ), so I really don't know what to say. And to be honest, I like the narrower back on the wings, though the wested is far from bad looking.

Oh yeah, I'm afraid of hugs now....

yeah, I know...I wanted this for an everyday wearing jacket I can wear shirts and sweaters under left out and they not hang below the jacket.
Down the road I'll probably get a SA Raiders in baby sheep.

the us wings model looks nowhere near as good as the wested. the wested jacket on you looks cool.

...maybe i'm just a darker color kind of guy.

CitRon IMO the wested looks the better of the two. :) Looks very Indy like. The U.S. Wings I will say I am not fond of it, but if you are then that is what counts. Again I will have to concur with what everyone has said, the wested on you has a looser fit than the Wings jacket. Looks great, hope your enjoying both jackets.

I like them both and was surprised at the pretty-good cut and leather of the USW. However, the selling points add up in favor of the Wested. Notice the frontal pictures with arms raised - the Wested, with it's gussets under the arms, keeps the sides of the jacket in place as opposed to the spreading you see with the USW. This is one of the things I wish I had ordered differently on my non-gussetted Raiders. Although I think both jackets look big on you from behind, they look good from the front. The color of the Wested is definitely more 'right', along with most of the details.
I just ordered a USW blue label on sale, just to see how I like it compared to the Raiders that I bought five or six years ago when I was 35 lbs heavier. I'll probably keep the Raiders but would like to find a decent, slightly smaller jacket, and I've been wanting to try the cowhide. Maybe you should keep both and see how they break in over time! Unless the fit is atrocious, it's sometimes hard to tell about a jacket when it's new.

CitRon, that is by far the best Wings I've seen!

Both jackets look good. A little long for my taste too but good.

The Wings looks a little narrow in the back panel, the Wested a little wide.

In the end which one you feel more comfortable will be the best fit for you.

The Wested looks fab, although I'd say both are too big on you....
To me, the jacket should drape nicely and never look bulky. That's why I wasn't a big fan of that KS cowhide, for example. To me, lambskin is what really gave the Raider's jacket a lot of its personality (the draping, flapping). But it all boils down to taste, I suppose.

Wested wins hands down. I do think both jackets look a little big on you, more so with the U.S. Wings.
