If you MUST know, it was NOT of my doing. I'd never put anything l like that on my jacket...

I shipped the jacket off to an individual (whose name I will not mention) in trade for HIS US Wings Indy jacket. Mine had some things about it that HE liked better, and his had some things that I liked better. Well, he got the jacket and it didn't fit him very well, so he wanted to send it back and get his back. So, I turned around the next day and sent his back to him. For some reason, mine didn't get sent out for another few days, and when I opened the box yesterday, the jacket was NOT in the same condition in which it left me. The leather was covered, in several spots (the shoulders, back, collar, and a couple of places on the chest area) with this whitish colored dirt/soil. Needless to say, I was pretty ticked, and still am...but I did find out that it ISN'T Fuller's Earth. Turns out the guy let someone else ship the jacket for him, who had bags of dirt/soil in his truck, and the stuff got on my jacket.

So....there's the short version.

Now...how can I get this @#$% off my jacket?

Thanks!

Well, I'm glad to see the planets have realigned and Dawg's not gone to the "Dark Side", all is well with the world.

Do you have any of the Lethap (sp?)? When I used what you gave me, it seemed to take up some build up on my jacket.

Just a thought.

Mike

Yeah..

I've got plenty of that stuff....do you think that might work?

Hmmm...

No...I've definately not gone to the dark side....just have to undo some damage.

Man, I hope it works out for you. If so, let us know not only the results but also the guideance and wisdom that sage Michaelson lent to a troubled Gearhead.

I guess you're just lucky that he didn't let someone who owned a cattle truck (common to the rural areas in these parts) do the shipping for him.Image

I tried what Michaelson suggested last night and had no success.

He figured since I had treated it so heavily with Pecards that the stuff was just adhering to the Pecards on the surface, and that if I heated the Pecards with a hair dryer on low setting and wiped off the excess, that the dirt like substance would come with it. Well, apparently there wasn't as much Pecards left in the jacket's surface as he thought....because it din't work.

So, now I'm just not sure WHAT I should do. Apply MORE Pecards to it, and hope that the stuff comes off with the excess Pecards when I wipe it down? Just leave it as is, and wear it whenever I dress up as Indy to achieve the "film look"?

 Oh, well, what can you do?
Indydawg

Sorry to hear that

Well, if you don't have anything going on with a sale, send it on up to me and let me see if there's anything I can try on it. No, not gasoline and a match..... High regards. Michaelson

Well, now...

The word from Michaelson is that after some work on HIS end, the jacket is back to normal. But, it doesn't matter to me as it's HIS jacket now. I got the FS goatskin back in MY closet (actually, it's on my back, and I plan for it to STAY there), so all is right with the world.

So the moral of our story is...

...when in doubt, just send it to Michaelson and forget you ever owned it. (grins) High regards. Michaelson
