Another Wested Last Crusade Dark Brown Lamb!(With NEW pics!)

Ok, received my latest jacket earlier today, a gorgeous Dark brown LC.
Fits perfectly again; I'm lucky, standard 42R seems to be fine for me.
I love the pockets this time; my previous lamb is currently winging it's way back to Wested to have some minor pocket alteration done (fantastic communication from Wested on this matter too. They made it very easy!). For the flaps, I asked Peter for something as close as possible to Holts superb HH LC, and I think they turned out great. I doubt anyone would be disappointed with these on their jacket.
The pocket is 6 1/2 inches wide, by 7 inches high. Probably slightly smaller than on Holts jacket. Placed exactly 2 inches up from the jacket hem too, which I love.
I asked for no leather facings, despite being not entirely sure what that would entail! I know now, though, and I'm very pleased. I asked Peter for the lightest jacket possible, and I think that's just what I got.
The dark brown is noticably darker than my authentic brown, which is nice, or I'd have two virtually identical jackets! Dark, but it's certainly not going to be mistaken for black. I love the nickel zipper on the dark jacket.
It has the 'Handmade by Craftsmen' label too, which is nice, though my two earlier jackets did not.
It's incredibly soft, and quite shiny. I look forward to wearing it 24/7 for the next few weeks!
Just one more to go now; the TOD jacket, and I'm done. 4 very similar jackets in one year is quite enough for me!
I hope the pics aren't too large; I tried to resize them to 640 x 480.
*edit* They are too large, it seems the re-size didn't work. Sorry!
I'm no good at this stuff; it's a miracle I even get the pictures on the computer at all!

Not yet, no. I'll give it time to settle in a bit first. 'Out-of-the-box pics don't do these jackets justice, I think!

very,VERY nice jacket.
they could leave out the hem stitch but other then that very nice.
those pockets are PERFECT
so all you people have to do now is ask for Holt flaps on your LC and it will be great.certainly looks like that.

Strones; I'll post comparison pics when I get my authentic brown back.
I was going to ask Peter to hold onto it and send it with my TOD jacket in (hopefully) October, but I miss it, so I think I'll have it sent back as soon as the alterations are done!
To Holt; yes, I thought about the hem stitch, but I don't mind it. How does it work with out one, by the way?
Thanks for the pocket flaps too; it looks like someone at Wested spent a lot of time on them! The press studs are exactly where they should be, the shape is perfect and the stitching is great.
Overall, I'm delighted with the jacket.
I like my Novapelle CS, and my other lamb, but this is the best of all, possibly because I know what I want by now.
My list of requests was pretty small; mainly pocket related
, and I thank Wested for paying such close attention and making me a very happy camper!

the jacket works perfect without the hem stitch.
what? are you thinking of getting another one without the hem stitch?
are you begining to do what I do?.getting a new jacket new for the single smallest detail.
I KT gets a good laugh from this.he is the one who gets all the pm's about this and that before I decide

No, no! I'm not thinking of another jacket! Pockets concern me a great deal, but the hem stitch is neither here nor there.
I'm happy!
I look forward to the TOD, then I can put my wallet away for a while!

I'm really considering getting a ToD jacket in the dark brown lamb. I love that hide and I think it really looks the part.

Oddly enough, after initially deciding on lamb for the TOD jacket, I'm leaning towards goat now. I've got two lambskin jackets now, and I'd love to see what goat is like; I've heard nothing but good things. But we shall see, hopefully in October!

Agreed. I had a Wested goat Raiders a little while back. After some distressing it was a DEAD RINGER for the ToD jacket (most evident in the village scenes), with the obvious excpetion of correct pockets, yoke, pleats, etc. I really think the goat will produce the best results ToD-wise if one plans to distress it as such.

I think the length looks good on you. A tad short possibly but it looks good.

no,not to short.its perfect,perfect I say!
looks great on you
I am allready palaying with the thought of getting another LC,now that I see that they can do my style of pocketflaps over again.
can you give me the pocket specs of yours.yours looks even better then mine do.IMO
did you ask for a V tapered backpanel?

My pockets are your pockets, Holt!
I asked Peter for pocket flaps just like yours; and I think they're great!
I think if you asked for 'Holt pocket flaps', Peter would know what you meant!
Rounded 'point'; not pointy, fairly squared sides (not too square though),
scalloped but only slightly, and three inches deep at the 'point'.
Pocket size is 6.5 wide by 7 inches high. You'd need a slightly bigger pocket on your jacket though Holt, maybe 6.75 x 7.25?
I love the squarer pocket shape.
Glad you think the shorter length is ok. It's taken a while to get used to it; my earlier Novapelle was about two inches longer, more CS style, and I didn't have the other lamb long enough to really notice it.
It's got a back length of 25 inches, which is about right, but no, I didn't ask for a tapered panel.
All I need now is the Temple jacket (I know, I never shut up about it), and I'll be set; shorter LC stlye (x2), longer TOD style (dark goat!), and heavier Novapelle for the colder months.

25'' backlentgth.I think it looks great.mine is 25.5'' back length.
mine is a 44 though yours is a 42 right?
how does the dark lamb feel.thin and week or does it feel like it can take some wear and tear?
Posted: Sun Sep 28, 2008 10:39 am
by Kevin Anderson
Mine's a 42, yes. 42R, and should have been 25.25, but I asked for 25 inches in the back length. Not sure why, but I doubt 1/4 inch would make any significant difference.
Out of the bag, the lamb is incredibly soft, and quite shiny.
I've been wearing it as much as possible since it arrived, and most of the shinyness has gone, though it's hardly 'matte' like the novapelle.
I've worn it in the rain a few times, not for long, and only light showers, and that seemed too toughen up the leather a bit, but it's still fairly soft.
It feels strong, but obviously it won't be anywhere near as tough as the horsehide jacket/s you've owned.
For day to day use, and for a jacket that has the correct Indy drape, I can't think of a reason to go for anything other than lamb!
That said, I will be getting the Temple jacket in goat, firstly to try a hide i've heard so many good things about, and secondly because I already have two lamb jackets. Goat sounds like a good lightweight but sturdy leather.

Holt, do you feel that Tod jacket was darker than Raiders?
Posted: Sun Sep 28, 2008 11:22 am

yes,a little darker the raiders.
I allways seen the TOD as the darkest of them all

Here, here!
I really think the dark lamb will scream ToD (I know, I know, I need to shut up about it).

my HH is the darker version( not with the redish undertones)
it looks very much like the dark lamb actually when I see your jacket

Not at all too short. Length looks perfect. This is how people start doubting their jackets...

I appreciate all the comments guys, thanks!
The length thing is a individual thing, I think. I do think it could have been longer, but only because I'm used to a longer jacket. I think it looks pretty screen-accurate, like yours Holt. The LC, in most scenes, wasn't a long jacket at all. Loose fitting, perahps, but not really long.
Just one more thing; water (rain) really seemed to bring out the grain in the jacket. It's very fine, but it's there. Brand new, it was so smooth and the grain was just barely noticable.
Oh, and I said earlier that I love the nickel zipper; it's just such a great contrast with the dark leather, I think I prefer it to the brass one.
And Strones, compared to black, this jacket is BROWN!
Everything around me; printer, keyboard, computer desk, it's all black, and my jacket next to these things, is very different, a gorgeous dark brown, you'll love it!

Awesome jacket!
I wish that my Wested LC jacket had featured that authentic pocket and collar configuration. Wear it proudly, because they don't make 'em much closer to perfection than that.

Jacket looks like a perfect fit. I really like how the sleeves have a nice taper to them. I have a three year old Wested DB lamb and love the color. Do you notice if it has reddish undertones?
Posted: Mon Sep 29, 2008 12:12 am
by Kevin Anderson
No undertones yet, I imagine that's the sort of thing that might develop over time though. I look forward to wearing it in.
Thanks for the comments on the fit; it's reassuring. I guess at the end of the day, I have to wear it and be happy with it, but a second (or third, or fourth!) opinion is always nice.

The lenght is perfect for a LC!

Isn't it strange? When I first put my Novapelle LC on it felt realy short. maybe too short even. But after a while I discovered it wasn't at all: it just feels that way at first because of the cut. It's almost like it's more tapered towards the bottom of the jacket or something wich makes it feel like it's higher up on your torso than it realy is
(does that make sence?)
I agree the length looks fine on you and I promiss you'll get used to the feel of this jacket. Wear it in good health because it just looks great.
Regards, Geert

any picturs of the side of the jacket while wearing unzipped.
want to take a look of how it hangs on you pluss I want to see the sleeves from the sides

also I see that the pockets are placed a little low for my taste.I like them placed more SA.dont get me wrong your jacket rocks!! and I would take it over in a sec..
if you are going for more SA for your next LC jacket then you see actually how high they are placed on the real LC jacket.close to 3'' from the hem.
but still your LC rocks! and I love the dark lambskin on the jacket, even though it is authentic brown on the original.

Thanks Holt! I will put up some more pics when I can.
I was suprised with the pocket placement. I asked for 2 inches from the hem, and that's what I got! I asked for the same placement for my earlier lamb LC, but it arrived with pockets about 1.5 inches up, so I thought that must be the norm, and not something Peter would change.
But 2 inches was enough for me; high enough so it looks different from the Raiders, but not so high that it looks silly on my shorter length jacket.
As someone mentioned earlier, the sleeves to appear slightly tapered, though I didn't ask for this. Nice though!

I took a some a few days back Holt, but they looked terrible, and not a good representation of the jacket. I'll take some more and hope they turn out better.

I'm actually thinking of selling this one; I just can't get used to the shorter length. It would be a shame, because the jacket is otherwise perfect, but I prefer my longer Novapelle, and the upcoming TOD jacket will hopefully suit me just fine.

Thanks guys; we shall see, I'm not sure yet. Will give it a few more weeks of wear.
No doubting it's a beautiful looking and well constructed jacket, but If I don't like the length, I simply won't wear it.
Rest assured though, that if I do sell it, it will be at a bargain price, and hopefully to someone with a slightly shorter torso than mine!

Seriously, man, go pop LC in the ol' DVD player if no one hear can convince you!
