The jacket in the first photo isn't an A-2, you can tell by the storm flap which is like that on G-1s. It looks like a different jacket to the other photos.

Interesting,
I believe they're the same jacket just the 1st one was taken when McQueen was being trained on the bike and the wardrobe department hadn't gotten to distress his outfit yet.

That's not the same jacket. There have been many reproductions of the A-2 that McQueen wore by various companies. I just don't remember what it was.

Hmm, what give the difference between the jackets away?
That's a great website, is it sourced in Korea or Japan?
Thanks,
Matt

Check out this site. I'm sure you can find the contract for the McQueen A-2.

If you just want a great A-2 at a great price, consider Gibson & Barnes. Cheers

I thought his first role was a bellhop in Dead Heat on a Merry-Go-Round (1966), but that must be what everyone thought

Those are some great jackets. Thanks for the links, they've been bookmarked lol.
still wondering though, if you don't mind, what gives the jacket difference away on my first pic as opposed to the others?
Best,
Matt

McQueen's jacket in the pic on the bike has an inside (under the zipper) stormflap. Also there is a patch on the shoulder instead of an Army/Air corps decal. His A-2 in the movie is a bonified WW2 era A-2. McQueen did his own motorcycle riding in the movie. It’s probably a “stunt” jacket. Cheers

The jacket in the first photo looks like an AN-J-3. G&B makes those as well.

I always heard that it was a myth, did a quick search and pulled up these two sites:
http://www.harrisonfordweb.com/forums/s ... php?t=6815
A popular myth has him appearing in a scene of The Great Escape but this movie was filmed while he was still attending Ripon.

I thought I heard it was a copy of a Rough Wear jacket. They were an A-2 jacket maker during the war, Eastman makes a great copy ,so does the Real Mcoys. Hope that helps.

I've heard that Great Escape was his first on-screen appearance and Dead Heat was his first speaking role.
Oh well though! Doesn't really matter to me... I'm not going to start collecting bellhop or Hitler Youth gear!

Thanks Rundquist for clarifying, I see it now.
As for the myth, It's him, unless he has a twin. look at a photo of him at a similar age, I think I saw one of his class photos somewhere, but it's defiantly him.
Regards,
Matt

It be sweet to get scans though : )
