very nice transformation m7.....what do you mean by a "hat shaper" though? is that a smaller hat block that a finished hat will fit over?
did you do any extra finishing (pouncing) to the hat? it looks like you smoothed the felt out quite nicely from the before picture.
anyways, very nice hat.....that's a keeper

Thanks guys!,I'm quite pleased with my first attempt(I'm still fiddling with the bash though!)..Indiana G,I got the hatshaper from here..
http://www.hatshapers.com/Product%20Pag ... d_Dome.htm I love the hatshaper, you just wet the crown and pull it down over the block and leave it to dry.I'm going to use it on all my old hats now..the felt on this hat is really nice,it's soft and it has a lovely red tone to it,it smoothed out really nicely on the block and bashed very easily-I've saved the ribbon to go on an old stetson!

Nice job, seven! Those hatshaper blocks seem to do a good job on getting a vintage look! By the way, what did you do with the old ribbon?

Hi there,
Saw your post and looked at the link for hat shaper. My HJ is tapered so I want to get one. A few questions if you would be so kind.
1. What size did you order? and what hat size are you? I'm 58 cm
2. Did you order direct from the US or from the UK agent?
3. When you re-blocked did you leave the sweatband on?
Great result you got from the Hat shaper. Hope to here from you soon.

Hi IndyBrit,My hat size is 56,I ordered the 22" block(my head measurement).I ordered direct from USA,I might be wrong, but I don't think they have a UK agent. The hat above had a cracked sweatband,so I had to replace it anyway, but since doing this hat,I have reblocked my old Fed III and a 40's stetson and I left the sweatband(and ribbons) on both with no probs, just took out the liners first and then took care not to soak the sweat with water when I wet the felt).I love the hatshaper!
....Thanks TomTom!,I'll try to take some more pics tommorrow. Here's a pic of my reblocked 40's stetson(SOC bash)..

That hat is amazing! It's more "Indy" than Indy's! ;-) And yeah, Bath's a lovely place. I've had some great times there.
