Is Todd's shirt too short for you?

Bags, Boots, Shirts and all other gear should be discussed here.

Is Todd's shirt too short for you?

Post by Mark Brody »

It seems I'm not the only one that has a problem with short sleeves and short bodies of Todd's shirt. Other than the limited sizing selection, however, it's a fantastic shirt. The material is comfortable, the quality is great, the pattern is spot on (even if it doesn't fit perfect), and the price is right!

If there is enough interest in long sizes, maybe Todd will be so kind as to offer them.

i can't say that the shirt didn't fit me- i ordered a large, and it was just the right combination of a good fit AND fairly roomy in all the right places.

however

i see no downside to petitioning a vendor to carry a wider variety of size options to better suit customers of all shapes and sizes. if Todd sees this post, i hope he'll grant your request.

My father is 6ft 5in tall and has the hardest time finding clothes that fit him. He is trying to get together a good outfit but he hates taking the chance of ordering something that very well might not fit him. Basically, if it doesn't come in a tall size, he won't order it since he is 99% sure it won't fit him. He has also been putting off a Wested jacket since he is not confident in what his measurements are (a trip to the Men's Wearhouse should fix that).

Also with the Todd's shirt, I want one, but I am 6ft 1in tall, and take tall sizes a lot. So I don't want to order one unless I am sure it will fit properly.

jnicktem, you may actually fit into Todd's shirt fairly well. I'm 6'3" and I could use about 1.5 to 2.5 more inches in length, so it may be just right for you. Supposedly, this is the same size that Harrison Ford wore, and he's 6'1".

I bought an XL as I'm also 6'3". The sleeves are fine and the body is a little short but it should do. Granted I have not washed it yet but when I do, I'll be sure to be careful.

I found the tail to be a bit long, which doesn't matter since I'll be keeping this one tucked in. My sleeves fit great, also. Though, I have read some complaints in this department.

Does anybody have one of Todd's shirts in small? I really, REALLY want one, but I'm afraid it would be too big. I'm 5'9" 130 lbs. If any of you have a small could you please post your body size/type/measurements, etc. and how well the shirt fits you. I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks,

I owned one of Todd's standard leather jackets and I bought what I usually wear, which is an XL. Now the XL was a bit to small for me but at the time that's all the larger those jackets went. Later on he started selling XXL but I had another Indy jacket by then...

So I guess another concern I have about ordering a shirt is which size to order. Should I stick with what I usually wear, a Large , or is this shirt going to end up fitting me like my jacket did and I should go up a size?? :?

By the way I'm 6'1 and weigh around 184.....

I had to go up a size on the shirt, ordered my usual Medium and it was going to be too form fitting if it shrank. The large is great though.

His "height" seems to very depending on who you talk to. I've always heard he was 6'1 too but it's hard telling what his height is now.... :?

Anyway...

My AB shirt fits me perfectly and I ordered what I normally wear. My only "nitpick" with that shirt is wear the epaulettes come to rest on the shoulder blades. I'd love to be able to get a cheaper Indy shirt that fits me as perfectly as that does and Todd's shirt sounds like the best option.

I'll probably just order a size up like theinterchange did and get an XL instead of a Large. That way I atleast know I'll have a little room to "work with" encase I want to shrink it some.

I guess I don't fully understand why some of Todd's stuff always runs a full size off? :?

Just got my large yesterday and it fits me fine, normally would have ordered a medium but heard about the cut and figured I could always wash and shrink it if necessary but as for the length I think it's perfect. (Though I have no other Indy shirts to compare it to)

Anyone have any idea if a Todd's shirt would be long enough for someone who is 6'5" tall? The thing is, he hates the shirts that are considered tall sizes but are actually "big" sizes. He is tall, but not really big (230-40 pounds).

I would have to say no. At 6'3", the shirts are too short for me to wear them without rolling up the sleeves. I know that Indy always rolled his sleeves, but it'd be nice for the thing to fit right anyway.

I know just what you mean about larger sizes just being made wider rather than taller. It makes shopping for shirts very difficult.

How does everyone roll their sleeves up my ONLY complaint with the shirt is how there's no button in the slit up the cuff to make rolling the sleeves up easy. I can't get mine to look the way I want them. How do you do it?

The shirt's not too short on me, it's too tight! (Around the gut). I really like the fabric and design, but I'll have to lose about 15 pounds to be able to wear it.

I disregard SA and roll it up slightly above the elbow. It's much more comfortable than at or below the elbow.

The shirt is a bit short for costume wear. When I tuck the shirt in it tends to come out easily and I'm a pretty thin guy. I've only washed it in cold and hang-dry. It fits great everywhere else. I think I'm going to use this as more of an everyday shirt since I never tuck. Hopefully my NH will fit much better.

I don't have a Small, but I do own a Medium. I'm 5'9" and 155lbs. The medium is a nice snug fit that is not too tight or too loose. Since you're a bit thinner than I am, it might provide a bit more breathing room for you. After washing, the shirt measures 21" armpit to armpit. I would compare this to shirts you own that feel comfortable and have the look you want to achieve.

I've been looking to buy a Todd's this weekend, but this certainly adds a wrinkle (no pun intended).

I am 6'2" 185 pounds (41-42 chest) and certainly take a tall in many shirts because I am long waisted. (I wear a 15 1/2 34 in a dress shirt.)

Are you guys that are over 6' finding Todd's to short in sleeve length, torso length or both?

I'm 6'1", 195-200 lbs, and normally wear a 44L jacket. I ordered Todd's shirt in an XL and, although I agree the body of the shirt could be longer, it fits me rather well.

I'm no expert, but I'd say Todd's shirts run at least one-half size small when compared to other manufacturer's shirts. To anyone who is concerned, I would suggest ordering a size larger than you would normally wear, especially if you carry extra weight around your midsection.

Is there a big difference in the body between the large and the extra large. I think I heard somewhere that the XL is a little bit longer, but MUCH bigger in the midsection.

The website states "XL and XXL are cut normally around the waist," but the XL I received is considerably more form fitting than any of the other XL shirts I own, which tend to have quite a bit of extra material around the midsection.

I just received my Todd's shirt today and I have to say I love it, I got a medium and the fit is awesome, it's almost like it's fitted! Though I could stand to lose a few pounds in the gut, and hopefully it won't shrink on me too much in the wash, but upon first wear this beats the pants off my Magnolia shirt... go figure. I'd sure like to see Todd, produce some pants to match.

I'm short waisted so the length is just right for me. I can understand someone with a longer torso wanting it to be longer. I will say this is a tremendous looking shirt. The color I feel is spot on to Raiders. I just received my large yesterday. I'm 5'10", 180. I couldn't be more pleased.

I wore mine for Halloween, and when I wear the pants at the waist, as they should be, I find the shirt fits acceptably.

If you wear you pants at the hip, and have a 'normal' or 'tall' toso, it will be a bit too short.

Compared to a normal off the rack dress shirt, it is about 1-3 inches shorter in the tail.

It was copied from a 'real' Indy shirt, but it seems more and more apparent that Ford was a size 40 short...

For the general public, the Todd's shirts should be (in my opinion anyway) 2 inches longer in the tail. Just my opinion, but most people are not short, they tend to be 'normal'; and for those who are 'tall' this shirt can be a bit annoying to tuck in all the time...

I'm not sure what the complaint is about? You can see the shirt in the film was very short. It came untucked quite often in the film. If you want a larger shirt in the same size order a WPG or Wested.

I think the complaint is about people wanting a shirt they can wear normally with their other wardrobe. I measured the Todd's I had against the other (non-Indy) shirts hanging in my closet and it was the shortest of them all by several inches in most cases. And usually I can get by without tall or long size shirts.

Plus, a lot of people wear more low-waisted jeans and other pants these days, so a longer shirt helps with that too.

So while it may be SA as it's made now, I think people want some real world wearability in this case.

I still don't get it. It's called Todds "Costumes", not Todds Custom Clothing. This is why I point out that there are other vendors for more practical items. I've seen similar complaints about the boots but what do you want for $80? Surely not Aldens, although thats what it seems some (not saying you) are expecting. You just can't beat the price for boots that look like the Aldens, thats for sure. The shirt is also priced very well. What do you expect for the price?
People keep forgetting that while made to be practical for the film, Indy's wardrobe is his costume. It's not made to last past the shot it's needed for. Todd even reiterates this in the name of his company.

Hmmm... "Todd's Custom Clothing"... has a nice ring to it. Although what I sell falls into the category of "costumes", all of my items are actual clothing perfectly suitable for everyday wear.

I'm 5'11, 170 lbs, very average build, and the medium and large size shirts fit me fine - if the tails were any longer I'd be tucking them down my pant legs. On the other hand, I did discover that my sizing specs were off (a mistake on my part). The XL and XXL shirts should indeed increase in length in larger "steps" and that will be corrected in the next run. I would suspect that most of the "shortness" on on the XL and XXL shirts - am I right?

Sorry, but with the small volume of shirts I sell, offering more size options than four (five at the most) is not really in the cards. However, the tails on the XL and XXL shirts will be corrected to the longer lengths.

The length of the shirts compares well with most of the shirts in my closet (mediums and a few larges).

The shirt is over $50 when you add in the shipping. If I were paying $15 I might expect something only good for a costume, but for nearly $60 I don't think it's asking too much to recieve an item that you can wear as a normal shirt - and Todd's shirt is just that! By no means is it a costume piece only item but a decent shirt as well.

So that's why people are asking for a bit longer version. Just like they do with a jacket or hat - they want an item that fits. YOu can understand why people might ask for jackets of different sizes, right?

Besides, what's wrong with Indy gear that last's a little? And again, $60 is a fair price for a decent shirt, I shouldn't have to pay $100 for something as simple as a shirt. I mean it's probably made in the same place other daily use clothes are made.

I'm 5'8" and wear a Todds large. Fits me perfectly  Keep in mind that you should not wear your pants at your hips but at your waist or at least between hip and waist. As Agent5 pointed out, $50 for a great Indy shirt is bargain. You mention shirts at you local store... well if you want a tent for the masses then yeah, you're gonna get bigger shirts. Todds shirt is a replica of Indy's shirt, not a look alike. Wested, WPG and Magnoi's* make shirts for a more "average" public fit.

*Magnoli's clothiers are more of a custom tailor and will be the perfect fit but you will pay more.

Cheers,
Jeff

This is the only photo in which I wasn't wearing the jacket. Not the best quality and not particularly flattering (the shirt makes my stomach look larger than it really is...no, really), but it'll have to do.

The silly grin, btw, is because of the name on the can I'm holding. :[

Speaking of the shirt, I have to say it was extremely comfortable. And regardless of what I was doing--standing, sitting, driving--the shirt didn't come untucked once!

I have two of Todd's size Large shirts and they fit just fine. I compared them on the same sized hangers hanging from the same rod with Wested shirts and AB shirts, all size large. While the Todd's shirts are just a tad shorter, the difference is negligible. I'm 5 ft 10.5 in, size 42 coat, weight at 175 to 180, and wear a 16/34 in an off-the-rack dress shirt.

Loose the gut, guys, your heart will thank you. For the longer torsos, you may need to have a custom shirt made. Years ago (more than 10) I used to get my business shirts tailor made from a Hong Kong tailor. There is nothing that compares to a tailor made shirt when the measurements are done correctly. You owe yourself a tailor made shirt at least once in your life. Save up for it if need be, but when it's done right, you will love that shirt like no other. Todd makes great quality clothing and gear, above costume quality, but for $50 you aren't going to get a tailor made shirt from any one that I can think of. Just look at the tailor made Joker shirts that were on eBay before Halloween. One seller was getting his asking price of $900.00 for a shirt you probably wouldn't wear for normal duty. Even Indy Magnoli gets $150.00 for his Joker shirt. Todd is providing an relatively inexpensive alternative, so you can't count on custom tailoring. I would ask, from all the shirt vendors, though: Please include two extra buttons to be sewn near the tail end of the front of the shirt, below the waistline. If my $20.00 shirt from Costco can have the extra buttons, why can't my $50 or $100 shirts also have them? Buttons fall off at the most inopportune times, usually when I don't notice right away.

I know about hard to find and fit sizes. Very few shoe makers make anything that will fit me. While my torso, waist, and arms are fitted fairly easily, my feet are not. I can order a 23 inch or 59 cm hat and feel confident that it will fit. But I can not wear Todds' boots because they are too wide. Any other less expensive, close enough boot doesn't work for me either. I feel fortunate that the real boot, the Alden, comes in my extremely narrow AA width size, so I gladly pay the price, for something that fits. And I doubt that there are many, if any others, on this board with a similar size, so Todd is not going to go to the trouble of making one or two pair of boots in my size. There just isn't the market for that. If your torso if bigger, longer, or arms are longer than "normal", then consider the tailor made route. You won't regret it.

With the length correction for XL and XXL that Todd is making, I'll wager that those shirts will fit better than the first generation.
