On Magnoli's site, the Jacket appears in a few different versions. Which is the most Raiders Accurate? Version B's collar looks right to me, but the pockets are bigger in Raiders right? Thanks Guys,

Matt

Thanks Holt,

You seem to have the best taste in jackets IMO, so what's your favorite?, you have a Magnoli?

I'm getting ready for my first, and I'd like to have a Wested for authenticity, yet if it's not COW Indy quality as a Magnoli or a Todd's Custom, then I'd rather put the money towards those...

Best,

Matt

There's authenticity and then there's authenticity.

I think a lot of newcomers to the hobby like the Wested concept as Peter is clearly part of "the Indy story" and a little bit of that fairy dust rubs off on every purchase. I was like that myself, several years ago. It's not a bad thing. People are actively interested and will "ohh" and "ahh" when I tell them the lineage of my Wested. And the pricing, on the whole, is still quite good for a leather jacket in anyone's language.

But, at the same time, you will find that other jacket manufacturers out there (which I will deliberately not name so this doesn't become a Wested versus insert-name-here post) are making some very nice kit, too. Indeed, they are making kit that is probably more screen accurate than the Wested. Because, let's be honest, the Wested has been tweaked a lot over the years in all sorts of ways, for one reason or another, and might well be "based" on the original patterns but has reached the stage where even a part-time afficianado of the costume can show you how it's not like the original jacket anymore, in x, y and z ways.

So you'll probably get a Wested first, but I wouldn't be surprised at all to hear you getting a different brand in another 6-12 months time to hang alongside it. It's that kind of addiction... I mean, er, hobby :)

Yeah, I know what you mean. I've been addicted to the researching of it for years. It's great though to finally be a member here and get involved with the experts. Hopefully all this time researching will limit the repeat buying...?...probably just hopeful thoughts huh. :?

Heh, you just never know.

I mean, case in point, it's like how I wasn't looking for another Indy jacket then, suddenly, US Wings did its limited run of 45 "Blue Label" jackets, based on an old, old, old Indy jacket in the posession of the owner of US Wings, reportedly from the set of the first film and I thought, "Yep, I'd like that..." and, lo and behold, I've got another Indy jacket winging its way to me. Not entirely screen accurate, but an interesting curio, extremely limited... and only $195 to COW members. It's the kind of thing I find it hard to say no to. You just can't plan that kind of thing. These jackets JUST HAPPEN sometimes :)

Well, I haven't gotten to wear my Magnoli Raiders jacket yet due to the heat, but in terms of look, I prefer it over my Wested (not to say my Wested isn't great). Technically, I suppose it is less SA, but looks more "right". Plus, I got the washed lambskin, which really cuts the shine.

In any event, Holt is right. Version A is the Raiders. If you spot something on one of the other versions that you like, though, you can ask for a modification.

and the slippery slope begins lol...

I'm thinking Magnoli is gonna be a good jacket to start. Though does anybody have much experience with TC Custom Jacket?, I saw a pic of Chris Kings and thought it was pretty amazing. Opinions?

I had one briefly. I only sent it back because the pattern doesn't suit a guy who's body is pear shaped (as in the fruit, not the british expression). Otherwise, I thought it was a fabulous jacket. Being the Magnoli nut that I am, I would compare Todd's custom lamskin favorably with my Magnoli lambskin. So, as long as you don't have a big gut like me, there's no reason to avoid a TC Custom as far as I can tell. I almost cried when I had send mine back.

That is a bummer. I'd say my body is like ford's in most respects, but I don't run funnny lol, anybody else ever notice that in SOC?
