I just bought my first pair of aldens 2 or 3 weeks ago and their the pumpkin color. Ive been wearing them since seeing if they would get darker but nothin doin. I was looking on the Alden website and they were selling this boot cream in different colors.. Like brown, black, dark burgundy. Just wondering if I were to buy one of these creams which color should I get.. The brown or the dark burgundy?

Thanks for your time,

Atticus

With general wear the aldens will become a little darker due to heat and sweat. Applying the cream will only darken the leather only temporary, I have tried this and noticed that the surface that has taken the cream does come off after time. I believe the only way of permantly changing the color is with a good leather dye.

It also depends on which leather you have in your Aldens. With the new wax finish, you're right, though the new Pecards brown does eventually soak in and darken the color without using dye (it did on mine), the shoe creame DOES work on the older patent leather versions. I'm wondering if this new 'Alden's Fine Shoe Creme' is actually Meletonian Shoe Creme? That's what Aldens used to recommend for use on the 405. Regards. Michaelson
