So I recently replaced the ribbon on one of my hats. The problem is the ribbon is very shiny. I was wondering if there was a way to dull the ribbon.

Anyone have tips on this front? I was thinking maybe spraying something on it might do the trick, like hairspray or starch. Maybe if I take some fine grain sandpaper to it?

I wouldn't recommend sandpaper, cos that will damage it and not remove the shine. I'd say the best and most Indyish option is to use Fuller's Earth or talcum powder on it.

If thenew ribbon is shiny, I can only assume it's something you bought at your local fabric store or Micheals type store.
That would likely make it polyester. And not much you can really do with it.

Agreed. Do not sandpaper it.
Try some dulling spray (available at any art supply store.
Some fullers will help a little.

Yeah. Guess I should just get a new ribbon. I was just in the store, saw it, and decided to give it a shot. I must say though, shininess aside, it's a major improvement over the one that was on there before.

I'd go with talcum powder. I've done it on almost every Indy hat I've owned, ergo the results must be pretty good.
