In my previous post "The last Indy jacket I'll ever own," more than one of you made statements like: "Yeah, sure, lets us know when you buy your next jacket." Well ... I have. As nice as my USW is it is nonetheless a very heavy coat, which is what I wanted as I intend to wear it places where it will afford the protection a stout leather jacket provides! I find however I want something lighter I can wear day to day.
I have dropped the moo-la for a Todd's standard. I have read within COW that Todd's is SA, very light weight yet sturdy. So ... it's just a waiting came now.
Here's a question ... those of you out there with Todd's standards ... how happy are you with the jacket?

I just applied some Fuller's Earth to my Todd' standard to help dull the jackets leather down. I can not believe the difference it makes. I really liked the jacket before...it's one of my favorites now. I have never been into the distressing myself...but I can not question the results.

Now about "the VERY last jacket you will own," have you given any thought to a very cold weather jacket?

I've never had a standard but I have owned a couple of customs (still own one). While the custom's leather may be a bit thicker, I think the general consensus is that the Standard is a more rugged jacket than first thought and they actually get better with a little abuse. I know my custom really came alive after a beating and washing.

I like my Todd's Standard but it's far from being my favorite. It's lightweight, thin and very SA, but the workmanship and durability for me prevents it from being an everyday jacket. Also, the fit is not right for me--the fit is fine around the chest but way too big around the waist and stomach. In my opinion, the best lightweight Indy jacket as far as comfort and fit is concerned is my Wested washed goat....it's thin, soft, drapes as well as lamb, but tough as any other goat jacket.

When you first pull it out of the package, you will notice it is extremely light, almost shockingly so! You may think that it will only be good for costume purposes and taking pictures. I have worn mine constantly since I recieved it, both work and play. I've found it to be a surprisingly sturdy jacket with just the right look.

I'm very happy with mine alphared6, and I think you will like yours too!

All the money spent already, you could have had a G&B lambskin. VERY lightweight, and will last a looong time. Wish I would have seen this thread earlier, I would have commented.

Is your G&B the same weght, or heavier than your Todd's Standard Mike?

I actually had a Todds custom, in nappa. It was comparable in weight to the G&B. The G&B just felt alot softer, yet stronger than the Todds.

I got one of the first Todd's Standards that was made, and I love mine. I think Todd calls the initial flatness of the jacket the "pancake effect," and it results from stacking before being shipped. But the more you wear it, the more it fills out and conforms to the shape of your body.

There were no real problems for me, just some very minor detailing in the construction that was slightly off, but I guess that's to be expected.

As soon as I first put mine on, there was no mistaking it for anything but the Raiders jacket. It definitely has the "it" factor.

I just got an Email from Todd's, my jacket is on the way and should be here Monday the 15th. I'll take a snap shot of it right out of the box and another after I've worked on it.
Say ... any body here ever soak their Todd's Standard down to get it to fit and achieve the wrinkles on the sleeves? How did it come out? Was there any shrinkage or other detrimental effects?

I got mine soaked in the rain, and then rolled the sleeves up while wearing it. The jacket turned out very nice, and the sleeves looked perfect. Water won't hurt the jacket.

I'd second (and third and fourth) the washed goat as I always do... Mine went out for a walk in a light rain today.

my wested otr goat is starting to do that,I've been lightly rained on not soaked but the sleeves have started to wrinkle and it doesn't seem as shinney.

You beat me, mine isn't sheduled to be delivered till Tuesday the 16th.

My Todd's standard arrived an hour ago and I gotta say I am supper pleased!
Later this evening I will no doubt preform a water treatment on it but if you'll note in the attached photo, within 45 minutes of just trying it on it has already started to get those folds in the sleeves.

I took two pictures of the jacket, one with flash on (left pic) and one with flash off (right pic). The difference in the color of the jacket is dramatic! And neither is an accurate depiction of the true color!

the more I see the todds the more I like them, just not sure Iwant to get it yet because I want the wested TOD jacket,but that Todds looks so cool.I may just have to get both.

This is also a better depiction of the color as well. The hip adjustment tabs pull towards the front. I just have it double looped. Your note the buckles are different. I figure that is due to the thin nature of this leather to provide better hold. Though not SA I personally approve.

Nice. I'm still considering selling my Todd's standard. I've only worn it to try it on and it just feels too small to feel comfortable in (it's size small). I threw it up on the for sale section for expressions of interest a while back, but might do so again when I have the time to take pictures.

That aside, I do feel as though the standard isn't sturdy-feeling enough for my tastes. I never thought my goatskin wested was that sturdy, but compared to the todd's standard, it feels like a tank now.

A Todd's is on my short list for my first coat (most likely the last, too) but I do wear my old non-Indy leather jacket with quilted lining mostly in the winter and with a light sweater over a shirt. Will I freeze to death in a Todds or a Wested? Will I look like a stuffed sausage?

The only way anyone ever looks like a stuffed sausage is it they get a jacket that's one or two sizes too small for them.

Get a jacket - any jacket - that fits, and you'll never be confused for a stuffed sausage, whether you're skinny, chunky or somewhere in between

wowwww, what kind of leather is he using now? Mine i had to work on alot to get the lamb to respond even half as much as yours.... completely jealous of your jacket, looks great.
