Reblocked AB Dlx.

After I bought two Christies the first one in sable the other one in light sable, I decided to build my own hat block to fight the common taper. Two weeks ago I started and asked myself which scene the blocked hat should match.

Fedoras hats look like the hat in the "before the temple" scene. The christies matches "Raven Bar" and the "well of souls". So I wanted a block that's a bit squary like Fedoras blocks, but has a slight taper not as much as the christies but enough to match the "Raven Bar" scene.

The "Winston 360" Topic from 3thoubucks helped me alot, because fedora posted a few a pics from the grey raiders fedora in the SOC scene. With that image in my head I tried to build my all time raiders hat block favourite.

I took my AB Dlx. apart cause after a wear in a heavy rain storm I forgot to push out the center dent. Let it dry and saw a bit of taper.

I knew, anything horrible would happen during the reblock, Marc could fix it. So I soaked the felt (it took minutes because Marc's quality fur felt) and pulled it over the block and then...

...TA-TA!

Here a few shots while wearing in sunlight.

I know, Steve and Marc would say the hat has too much taper.

Aeris would say the hat is a bit too squary.

But for me it matches my favourite scene. There is not enough reverse taper in the back, okay, but I can live with that.

What is your suggestion? Please be honest. If you don't like it, write it.

First, I have to admit that I've not been in this game long enough to really study the screen hats.

But just from the perspective of a great looking lid, yours is terrific looking.

You did a TERRIFIC job there

I'm rather shocked myself to see how the hat tapered from so little to honest. I haven't experienced that with any other of my hats in the past.

Anyway, well done

Regards,

Marc

TomTom,

That re-block really looks amazing! How did you manage to build the block? I'm contemplating building one myself for the eventual re-block I know my HJ will eventually need. Did you make it from scratch?

Cheers,

A

I used a tutorial here on COW. Don't know the user name but could do a research for you tomorrow. If I find the topic I will post.

Thank's to everyone for the kind words. Especially you Marc.

Is it me or is the brim narrower since the reblock?

I don't believe so. I think it's because it's not as tapper so gives the look that the brim is narrower. I believe he said he cut the brim way before the need for a reblock. I still think the hat needs more brim to it not much but some. it makes the crown look taller than what it is.

You are right, BendingOak.

Cut the brim last year after I received the hat. It was a reg. oval, so the head looked shorter than 5.5 inches on my head. I cut the brim, the problem was solved. Now, after the reblock, for the real "screen accurate lovers" the brim looks defnitly too narrow.

O, and thank's to everyone who's sharing his opinion.

I don't know if you need a lower crown to go with the narrower brim. I don't think I like the narrower brim on you

TomTom, I think that is perfect, and one of the best I have seen on the forum. Well done!

Thanks guys.

Before the reblock I didn't know the block will work or not. I'm really happy (and surprised) with the result. And if some people of COW like it too the work on the block was worth the sweat.
