I reblocked my Federation III using a can for a more top hat effect. Below are before and after pics plus one before the rebash. I think it also would have helped if I had a slightly larger can. Overall, I think the new block is still an improvement. At first, when I tried to rebash it -I wondered what I had gotten myself into, as it was more difficult to bash than it had been previously. I think one of the best features of the new bash is that the circular block seems to have given the hat a more natural "Indy Swoop" without even having to do any forming of the brim. The hat was "rolled" in both the before and after shots. Thanks to 3thoubucks and Weston for the idea. Possibly saved me the temptation of buying a new hat in the interim before my Adventurebilt arrives.

If your head is nearly round, a can would work pretty good. If your head is more oval, a more oval block gives you a longer top crease, resulting in less front crease backtilt, and more backtilt in back. Just about every Indy hat offered looks FANTASTIC from the front, because all these blocks are stovepipe on the sides.

I tried something similar with my old tapered Fed III, but i don't know about the final result...
Unfortunately I found a round "block" only.

As you will note, there is an improvement from the before and after pics from the front view. My hat is only a few months old and maybe it suffered from a bit of taper from my using too much steam to bash it. I did not post the side view since there is not really much of an improvement in my opinion. I think this is because the can I was using was slightly undersize, even with some duct tape around it to make it a little larger. So, there is a little noticeable taper in the rear of the hat from side view.
