Bashing Guide

Thinking of ordering an Akubra Federation, but the bashing guide most people seem to recommend is down:
http://www.adventure-realm.com/raidersbash.html
Can anyone help, or suggest an alternative? The "you have to bash it yourself" thing is intimidating me a bit.

I don't think I could put it online as I don't know who the author is of that tutorial and can't ask for his permission, but I have it saved as a Word-file. If you want I could e-mail it to you. Just send me a PM with your E-mail adress if you do.

We have no control over links posted to outside sources, so if the link breaks, there's nothing we can do on our end to repair it.

That link was to a tutorial that I put together a couple of years ago. I don't have a copy of it myself, but if someone else does they are welcome to share it. I got rid of most of my hat pics when some folks suggested I was faking them.

I remember the hat in question. Dead ringer for the Raven Bar hat from various angles, as I recall...
Yep I can vouch for that famous fedora. After all...
I OWN IT!!! Bwah ha ha!!!
(Sorry bout that, had to be said.
)
P.S. - Whiskeyman, she's still going great!

Hey Whiskyman, Would you like to have the word-file I copied of that website? In that way the Tutorial would be back with it's creator and can maybe even put back online someday.

Strones, any idea what hat that is in the tutorial you posted?
Hats Direct tutorial is
http://www.hatsdirect.com/hat-info/shaping.html
My hat hasn't arrived yet so I'm very interested in this topic also. It appears some folks start with the pinch and some start with the top crease.
Thanks to everyone that's posted on this.
Peace.

I echo Delfloria - thanks for all the links. I'm out of town but my "house-watcher" told me I got a package on Friday from "the hatters". I'm hoping it's my Carbon Grey Fed IV ( if so, they are fast!) and these will come in handy since I've never done this before.

I wrote that tutorial and the hat was a special Adventurebilt made from a vintage hat body.

Yes, I was able to tell immediately that Whiskyman faked the results of his tutorial when I used it...
What in the world do people think they stand to gain? That's an excellent tutorial ( Whiskyman's ) and the one I used on the three hats I've done Raiders. It took me one dry runthrough, then a little goose from another member and I ended up with a fairly solid Raven style. Thanks for making that available, Whiskyman, and if it gets running again, I'm sure it will be a benifit for many.

Above pic is after having used that tutorial in conjunction with a bit of advice from a past member.

Just got my fed4 reg. today. Getting the bash to shape right and stay in place is tougher than it looks. One of the tutorials here recommends not using steam. I'm not convinced I will be able to get a raiders bash with out it. Thoughts from the experts out there?

Delfloria,
I just posted a new thread dealing with water bashing.

I don't like Raiders' bashes very much
but anyway when trying to bash mine it was difficult and looked like @#$% at first but with time and getting to know your way around your hat it gets there and gets perfect.

Wasn't you to compliment with my jacket and jacket list of specs just few days ago?
Thanks for remembering my guide too.
I saw my thread again and a part from a set of nice pictures I didn't really give any indication about the tweakings involved in the bashing process. I might post something more serious one of these days.
Anyway thanks for pointing out my thread

Have anybody noticed the web is full of raiders bash's tutorials, but there's no tutorial for ToD/LC/CS?
or am I blind?

You're not blind don't worry.
ToD and LC... and CS why not, they are generally considered much easier bashes to achieve. Especially ToD and LC, they are, first of all, not turned and the bash is much less defined. In LC it changes from scene to scene while in Raiders it had predominant and recurrent details that are not always easy to get, which is why there is a lot of fuss about it.
There are no many tutorials other than Raiders just because a very simple bash can imitate what we see on screen on the other two, well three sequels.
While to get this...
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y157/erri_wan/a11.jpg you require some more tweaking and knowledge that you can only learn by tutorials on COW
