Do you know if Wested is still putting shoulder pads in the ROLA special offer auth. lamb jackets? Anyone has bought one recently? Thanks for any help.

When did this change and why? I mean have all the padded ones been sold or were remainding stock altered? Don't get me wrong it great news, but that's the sort of thing that most potential buyers hated - I would have made an announcement so that everyone understood that shoulder pads were history. Anyway, good move!!

Another question about this jacket (please don't shoot me!): is it really 1" longer than the standard? Or it's just an urban legend?

Definitely urban legend. My standard was way too long, the special is perfect.

I measured my ROLA Special when I was looking into ordering a custom jacket and the mesurements turned out to match the "42 Long" on their sizing table for custom jackets. Since I was under the impression that all ROLA specials were "Regular" I asked gemma to confirm and she said that all ROLA Specials were indeed "Longs".

Castor Discouri, I was really just looking for Peter's take on the shoulder pad situation, when I asked the "when" and "why" questions because I knew how we all felt about them. Guess Peter doesn't care to comment.

Geert: is your ROLA special a 42? If yes, can you please let me know the measurement (in cm) of the back? Thanks.

Both jackets were off the rack, the standard was 42 and the special is a 40, but the sleeves are the same length on both. The only difference in length was about 3-4 inches in body length. The standard would always get caught up on my holster, which made the jacket stick out at an odd angle. The special ends just above the holster, allowing the jacket to drape as it should.

3-4 inches? Are you sure? It seems a big difference... Can you please measure the back of your 40 special? Thanks!

My size 42 ROLA Special does not have shoulderpads, has rectangular sliders (chrome ones though) and has a back-length of 66,5 cm.
I got it before I found COW, so when I started reading about shoulderpads I was pretty surprised. Mine didn't have them, so I assumed this was something you got with a Standard OTR. It is an India-made jacket though, so maybe they changed it when production for these shifted to India.

Geert, thank you for the very precious help! My 42 standard has a 65 cm back lenght, so it seems that the Special offer is 1,5 cm longer.

That 66,5 was a measurement I wrote down and it turns out it wasn't the correct one. I thought it was a little short so I took a tape measure and measured my coat again: 68cm from the colarstand to the bottom of the jacket.

Thanks Geert. Now, 3 cm is a not a little difference... Do you feel a 40 special could fit still good, considering to wear a shirt only? What do you think? This means also 1 cm less in the sleeve...

The 1 cm in the sleeve would be the least of my concerns with a 40 ROLA Special: it is an 80's cut, so a size 40 would be realy too tight for my 42 chest. I could pull-off a 40 Long if it wasn't 80's cut, but 42" is the actual measurement of my chest so I realy need at least 2 inches of room to move.

Strones, how tall are you and what size do you have? it seems to me that you are concerned with the jacket being too long.
Please keep in mind that handmade leather jackets can differ up to about 1.5 cm per jacket. I was lucky that mine appears to be on the large side of that scale as I love the fit of it.

EDIT: It could also be that by geting caught in the rain with it stretched the leather just a tad. That could ad up to the 1,5 cm between measurements I guess.

I'm about 180 cm tall, and my Wested jackets are all 42R. They fit very well and I also can wear a pullover or sweatshirt under them, in winter. I would like to buy a ROLA special just for "costuming" - if I can say that - but I'm very scared by those 3 cm extra, as my jackets are perfect and I hate long jackets. And I don't want to waist my money again...
I know that jackets can differ, but 3 cm (or even more) is a problem to me.

I'm only 5 cm taller than you are, but I can see where that could be a problem. Especialy if you are diferently proportioned than I am.

Did you ever measure your chest? Are you a true 42 or is that something you deduced from other jackets?

Well, my chest is 106 cm, that is 41,7 inches, so I ordered 42R jackets and must admit that they ever fit perfectly.

the chest measurement is the same as mine so I must have a longer torso.

So, let's just say that it would be an inch too long for you. That would rule out a ROLA Special for you in terms of SA. However, SA can only be achieved with a custom and a heap of specs anyway.

Yes, I fear you're right...

With a 41.7 inch chest, I would not recommend a 40 80s fit. Mine fits me snugly and my chest is 38.5-39 inches. From the bottom of the collar stand the back measures 65 cm. I think this confirms my suspicions that my original jacket might have actually been a 42L, although how that happened I don't know.

Standard back lenght of the 42R is about 64/65, so your 42 should be a long for sure.
