I recently stumbled across this thread. Does anyone have anymore information about the "Profiles in History" LC jacket?
Was it ever used on screen?

P.S
I think these are some great detailed pics. I used these pics as a reference for my current distressing project. A washed goat LC.

the first pictures of the jacket.I dont think it was ever screen used.it was sold at an auction with Ford.it was a brand new jacket that was distressed in the backroom before it was sold on the auction.so it would look the part..

the jacket on display is one of 2 the screen used jackets.

hey MJ I seeeeee you

I thought someone a while back compared this jacket to the one used on screen and showed (through the distressing) that this is, in fact, a screen used jacket. I may be a bit confused though...

That was the second one, the one at the Smithsonian. I do not know about the other sold at the auction.

If you go up and do a search for "Kurtz" you'll get a few threads on it. I'm not sure what the story is on that jacket, but it doesn't look like a screen used jacket to me(though, there is a Bermans & Nathans label on it). Still, I think it sold at a Profiles in History auction a few years ago for something like $80,000...

The consensus a while back is that if it was used it was during the Indy "hanging off the tank" scene. Same distressing. It's an awful jacket in my view, terrible pockets and horrid collar.

The distressing is horrible, totally unrealistic. Every edge is worn exactly the same and the surface looks like someone just went over it with a wire brush.

If it is just a production jacket that was new and never used then why is the armpit lining all ripped up? I always wondered about that. Could it have been meant for Ford but the distressing was so horrible that they ended up using it for stunts maybe?

I also noticed that the Kurtz jacket has the X stitch on the cinch strap and the hero jacket doesn't.

Quite the riddle.

I completely agree.. what a terrible distressing job.  How exactly do you get every single seam (even those under the collar) to wear like that?  Just looks terrible. And if you have to use sandpaper, at least try to make it a little less obvious. Geez.. terrible.. I think I'm gonna puke.

I allways wondered lining to...

the kurtz jacket and the original screen used jacket are pretty different from one another.

the details are.

Kurtz:

bigger pockets.
x box
higher yolk
armseam 1'' below the yolk.
different and pointy collar.
cotton bound collar stand
back sleeve seam overlap stitch
bottom hem stitch
longer straps
1.75'' storm flap

Hero:

smaller and wider pockets with big flap.
Narrow strap box
lower yolk
armseam meets the yolk.
rounded collar
leather collar stand
back sleeve seam without overlap stitch
no bottom hem stitch
shorter straps
1.5'' storm flap

I would not be suprized if the kurtz was a modified Raiders jacket with snaps and D-rings

I think _ said it was genuine. Can only be a stunt jacket, surely.

yeah I know..I think so too..

its a special jacket IMO...I really like it..

its ''something else'' ...something that nobody actually has in this forum....

I have atually been thinking of letting a vendor making one for me..

I have studied this jacket quite some time now...well long ago...back in the day I mean,...I actually thought this was the screen used one..thats why I did so much research on the cut and specs.etc,etc..

today I figured I might just as well get me one since I have the specs and pictures,etc..

would be cool to have one..
