I am now the proud owner of a Magnoli Adventure Jacket, style A. I chose a washed lambskin, which cuts that new jacket shine rather effectively. Also, the hide is amazingly soft. If regular lambskin is often compared to butter, this stuff makes butter seem like burnt toast!

Yes, it's long, but I asked for that. I wish the pictures were better, but I'm on my own. It's still rumpled from shipping, so it isn't draping right just yet. Please allow for that.

Chew, that looks great on you! I think the extra length was a good choice also. Seems everyone offers a "washed lambskin" now and I have to say it does a much bettr job of looking adventurous than the regular stuff does IMHO.

dont you just LOVE the hide Magnoli uses..I think that hide is VERY close to the original hide the raiders jacket was cut in..it very much looks like that when I see it drape and wrinkle..

just wear it as much as you can it will get even better...

I have to agree about the SA of the washed lamb. I can see that it will develop great character very quickly.

I was tempted to get the regular lamb and have Magnoli distress it. But my main issue was the shine. I own one of his other jackets in a dull finish cowhide, which a love, so asked if he had the same in lamb. He offered the washed. I didn't think anything could be softer and lighter than my wested, but I was wrong.

That's a great jacket, looks very nice. Length looks good too.

So, how do the two Magnoli leathers compare.......the cowhide and the washed lamb? Different feel/drape? Colors? Difference in how they might age or distress. I've been considering a Magnoli Indy style in the dark brown cowhide but your lamb looks pretty good!

You might be the only one that's had a chance to compare a couple of his prime leather offerings in the real world right next to each other.......any comments on the differences would be appreciated!

I haven't seen a bad fit or a bad jacket from Magnoli yet, they all look good! Congratulations!

How long did the order take from when you placed the order to when you got it?

Tennessee Smith; The order was officially place August 6th, and arrived August 22nd. That is the quickest I've ever received a Magnoli item (other that the in-stock satchel), so I think of that as the fastest turnaround time.


starks_6; Yeah, I am really happy to see more people giving these jackets a chance. It's been a long fight to get them noticed, but a worthy one.


cj610; The hide difference is huge. The cowhide is pretty sturdy stuff, and feels heavy (in a good way). The drape is nice, but like most cowhides, favors it's own shape over conforming to the wearer. However, it gives enough to be comfortable. It breaks in slowly, gradually molding to the body over many months.

The washed lamb is extremely supple, a little thinner, and weighs noticeably less than his cowhide. The drape on mine hasn't settled yet because of packing creases, but it's easy to see that it will drape much like the Raiders film jacket. Almost like thick cloth, it reacts to body shape and movement with lots of rippling and creasing. It likes to hug the body, even though it's cut loosely.

The colors are both dark brown, and very close. The brown is truer than a Wested authentic brown, but darker. The washing of the lambskin causes a few "character marks", such as slight color and finish variation. It's hard to see unless you inspect it closely, but the overall effect to make it look "experienced".

The cowhide is his "dull finish" type, and it seems like it would distress easily. Mine is less than a year old and already has picked up some character.
The washed lamb has an even duller finish, but the actually hide seems like it would distress less easily. However, I think it would naturally adapt that wrinkled look that people often get by hosing down their jackets. Speaking of which, this hide wants to absorb moisture, even in small amounts. I would not recommend wearing it in the rain without some sort of treatment. The dull cowhide would fair slightly better, I believe.

Overall in this comparison is that the washed lamb has the look and behavior of the Raiders movie jacket, while the cowhide will probably seem more like an Crystal Skull jacket, minus the predistressed look. Very different, but equally great.

You never really hear much about Magnoli (probably because of the price) but everyone seems to agree the fit & construction are top rate and the result is worth the price.

The price issue with Magnoli is probably the biggest, but I find it annoying, especially when it's compared to Wested. Magnoli's price includes the 100% custom garment, made to a army of measurements, and shipping to anywhere in the world. You pay a little more, but you also get more... even before the quality of the garment is compared. I suggest people do some very complete math when comparing total shipped price. Include considerations like the track record of service (frequent returns and exchanges, custom options, etc) in that. Also, if you're going to complain about Magnoli's prices, what about Nowak's? G&B? Heck, some of the US Wings jackets are close, and they're off-the-rack!

the quality of Magnolis garments are top shelf.even higher.the stitching is AMAZING.the hides arewonderfull..it will hold up to anything.

A Magnoli jacket could easily last a lifetime.

Where are the Wested Jackets made?

Wested Custom jackets and some of their OTR jackets are made in the UK. Other OTR jackets are made in India or China.

Well, I can't know what will happen over the next 10 years, but that cheap asian work seems better than most other work I've seen.

I feel just because it is made in India or China doesn't mean the quality isn't good. Sometimes it is better!

I certainly do not rule Asia out for other products. I buy Asian cars, cameras, watches and general gear. Leather jackets however... I prefer G&B. No jacket from India I have seen (and I've seen quite a few as I have contacts in India) have been anywhere near as well made. But I am quite happy to be convinced otherwise.

Good looking jacket but I think Magnoli needs to work on the collar design. It appears too pointy to me.

That's the beauty of working with Magnoli. You can ask him to change the collar if you want. Especially if you can provide a visual sample of what you prefer. I rather like his collar, but I can see where people would want something different.

Oh, and if you want to be convinced... come to a NY summit. Seriously, though. I understand why you feel as you do. As long as you have a jacket maker you love, there's no rush. One day I hope you get see a Magnoli in person.

There is an annual COW "Summit" or gathering Upstate near Keuka Lake. It's held in the summer (this years happened already), hosted by Curator Rick, and basically is a weekend of this forum, but live! We crack whips, crack jokes, eat, take pictures, meet other fans,etc. Often we get to see movie props and Rick sets up a mock archeological dig for us. It is a lot of fun. I've gone three times already, and I hope to help organize it next year. Here were my photos from '07.
