Ok, as I posted earlier, I would like to get a grey Fed IV, and more specifically one to look, as much as possible, like the "China Clipper/Washington" hat from Raiders. And let me also specify that I want it to be similar to the "clipper" hat and NOT the "train" hat from KOTCS. (it's not that i don't like the train hat, i just like the Raiders one more)

Many people have said that moonstone is the way to go. But I also talked to Ron and he said that it was difficult to say, but that they were selling more carbon grey hats than moonstone at the moment. Now, I could be wrong, but this looks very close to the "clipper/washington hat" to me. And I'm just confused how moonstone could be closer to the "clipper/washington" when it's lighter than carbon grey. : : : It just seems like the moonstone color would look like the train hat from KOTCS, which is not what I'm going for.

I'm sorry to drag this out. I just want to be SURE before I order.

To be honest, I'd say the carbon grey, and it may very well just be a nicer color in general. I have a feeling (but I have no real evidence) that when people think the grey hat from raiders, they also think of the crystal skull train hat because they're both a grey travelling hat. Thus, in a continuity sort of way, the defined grey hat from crystal skull is the same hat. But yeah, as for what's seen on screen, I don't think either are actually accurate, but I think that the carbon grey would be a nicer color

I could be wrong, but the diffrence I think, is the brown tones in the grey that come through with the moonstone hat. The reason that there was such a heated argument over the color of the grey hat in Raiders in the first place was due to the slightly brown cast that particular color of grey had as opposed to a bluer cast given off by a slightly darker shade of grey...if that makes any sense.

FWIW, I am going to order a Fed IV in Carbon Grey for the specific purpose of bashing it like the Raiders travel hat and because it will go with more of my clothing. That said, the last few comments posted here made me look at screen shots from Raiders and the Carbon Grey and Moonstone Fed IV again closely. I think the Carbon Grey is closer, much closer than the Moonstone. I also voted that way in the poll.

I really like the carbon grey, I really like the blue reflet in some photos I saw on different board.

I don't know what's the more SA color but I really have a big preference for the carbon.

I like it so much that I order one !!!

I own a CG Fed IV, too dark, should have waited for the Moonstone.

Just my 2 cents.

I think Moonstone is best because it's closer to the actual color of the clipper hat. My reasons are papered all over this forum, so I won't repeat. However, I think the Carbon Gray is the nicer of the two colors.

Piker, I'm assuming you mean too dark for the clipper hat?

And, if it's no trouble, could you please post some pics? (both in direct sunlight and in shade, etc.)

The carbon gray is darker, but it's a beauty of a hat IMO...

if you want an accurate Clipper/Washington hat I suggest you take a look at the Christy's adventurer in Burma! That color is the exact color of the hat in Raiders imo.

I think the Moonstone's a gorgeous looking hat. I've got my order in for Father's Day in a month's time...

Yep, Chewbacca, thats exactly how I feel about this whole thing. There's no majority for either color; hence my dilema.

I concur with your assessment here. Based on the photos posted in this thread, IMO the Moonstone, being a lighter shade of gray, looks more like the hat from KotCS, and the Carbon Gray, being a dark gray, looks more like the "clipper" hat in Raiders.

As an alternative, I think Dutch Jones may be on to something, though on my monitor Bessemer looks like a closer match:

Hmmmm.....I do think Bessemer is a closer match. I would also like to have the durability of a Fed IV as well, though.

I don't have one as yet. Like I said, I'm pushing for Father's Day...(which is in September, in Australia)

I'm just going on the pix I've seen here and on HatsDirect website.
