Just noticed something after watching KOTCS for like 5th time... In the beginning of the movie, Indy is not wearing his gun belt at all as I assume it has been confiscated by the Russians. However in a subsequent scene where he escapes from them and by the time he gets to the mock nuclear test village, now he's holstering the whip on his webbelt with apparent spare whip holder he somehow got out of his magic MKVII?! Now I don't care how it happened or why..., but based on this scene, now can we have the same getup for the people who do not want to intimidate the public... Just go in Indy shirts, pants, hat and boots... web belt and whip wholder+whip... sans the gunbelt+gun and still be Screen Accurate?? Just my two cents...

I remember when this was spotted in early production stills, along with the bag strap on the outside of the jacket. There were tons of theories and objections, but I think the opening events explains the change. I guess, for continuity's sake, it runs the whole movie. So, CS gear is most SA if the whip holder is on the web belt.

In the age of filmmaking where Spielberg replaces shotguns with walkie-talkies (E.T. Special Edition), combined with the fact that Indy never once fires his gun in KOTCS, I think it's safe to say that Indy is no longer a gunslinger. Sure, to the public, he's more famous for his bullwhip than his gun, but it's a shame that he can't just shoot the badguys anymore. Personally, I think the whip by itself looks kind of odd when not balanced with a gun on the other hip.

Indy fired his gun in KOTCS. But just once to scare away the native (or undead or whatever).

Which version of the movie did you see? He cocks the Webley to scare off the midget-ninja-zombie-monkey-indian-graveyard-protector-guy but he never actually fires it.

I stand corrected. Apparently it's been too long since I've seen the movie.
