is it 80's fit or standard? i asked gemma for the measurements and it sounds like 80s.. just wanna confirm with you gents..

i just ordered one and i wanna know what im instore for.. all opinions and comments and pics will be appreciated!

if you read what it says on the side you will notice it says 'standard specifications' inside leather facings..

no 80's cut on these..

a standard jacket has 4inches of room and a 80's cut has 2 inches of room.


fro example...a 44 regualar is measured 24 from pit to pit.thats 48 inches in totla.if a person has a chest of 44 then he will 4 inches in extra room.

a 44 80s cut has pit to pit 23'' 46 in total.if he has a chest of 44 then he will have 2 inches of room in it.

Are the ROLA's all 80's cuts ?

Rola's are slightly slimmer and longer to boot. Now, I don't know if this actually equates to an 'Eighties cut' or not.

The "Rola" part refers to most often asked for requests based on the standard pattern ie: Small gauge silver zipper, small pockets, no facings on zipper, x boxes on the straps, and it should have rec sliders and, I think, smaller yoke.

It also has minimal facings on the inside pockets (2) and a zipper on the left hand one. The top of the stormflap is supposed to be rounded too.

I believe they are also cotton/satin lined although they may be all cotton.

a 44 special ROLA cut has a chest of 23'' pit to pit..

a 44 standard has a chest of 24'' pit to pit...cause the standard has 4 inches of extra body room and an 80's cut has 2 inches of extra body room..

so the ROLA pattern and the 80's cut pattern are the same

I am a bit concerned about this washed hide.

I kinda have one on order.a custom raiders washed goat.Gemma just whaits on a confirmation before it is set in production....


I feel that maby this hide will pick up TOO much stress TOO fast..

I mean,...I have a a couple wahsed goat samples laying in my tee shirt drawer and just from throwing the samples in and out of the drawer they pick up too much stress.... and the samples are laying comfy and safe in my tee shirt drawer...no sharp thingies in there...

just imagine how distressed the jacket would look with normal wear after a couple months.....it would look 50 years old...

and imagine how the jacket would look in 50 years

I just dont hope that the distressed/washed hides just turn light and lifelss in a couple years..

maby it is best afterall to get a good'ol surfaced hide...


any thoughts?

agreed that this hide distresses quickly as after about 1 month of normal wear and tear, there's areas that are distressing already. i don't even recall doing anything extreme to those areas or even wearing the jacket enough to wear i

i like it.....i like it alot. i don't buy jackets to last a lifetime as i am never satisfied with just one. if the jacket wears quickly then it's character continually changes, which is what keeps me interested.....now if the jacket gets destroyed....well.......isn't that the best reason to buy a new one?........instead of, "man, this seam is 1/8" too low....i'll get that right on my next custom".

I don't know if I can agree with you Holt. I buy my jackets to wear now and not worry so much about 50 years distant! I agree the washed goat might age quickly, but I don't think that means it won't last. Nobody has had one for more than a couple months so we can't know what will happen in a couple years.

My opinion is that these will both age and wear great. My choice is to not distress a jacket and let nature take its course. That said I don't want to have to wear something daily for five years to get a nicely worn jacket either. I think the washed goat will take on a decent Indy appearance after a few months of wear and then be a great companion. I also agree with what G says about having just one jacket!

maby 50 years was a long throw..but say 20 years...

I have seen a 20 year old new finish goatskin and it ROCKED!!

the wahsed goat would look 20 years old in mather of weeks.months.

I don't see it distressing much faster then pre-distressed cowhide jackets. The leather has a suede-like exterior like many of these type of treated hides have. Only time will tell how quickly it distresses.

this post by Gater,the lighter look is perfect for CS.

this is a pre.stressed jacket.so kinda the same as wahsed goat.it is well worn and it looks like the pre.stresing has really blend out with normal wear and tear..leaving the jacket even lighter then I have seen in any other pre.stressed jackets.


if the washed goat looks anything like this many years later I rather get a new finish hide.

not very raiderish..but very CSish.

Those old predist jackets were a lighter colour to begin with. I had one myself and sold it because I thought it was too light.

It's just that, dude, it's really a beautiful hide. Granted, I believe it may distress fast, but isn't that what we all want; A naturally distressed Indy jacket that looks the part?

Gentlemen, please don't forget that ARTIFICIAL DISTRESSING looks the part, not natural distressing, as only artificial d. is SA. If you don't want SA, then go with natural.

I got my washed goat LC in today and the leather is fantastic. Really, I think it's my favorite leather of any I've held so far. I'm not sure about how it well it will age but it absolutely rocks right now (and I'm pretty sure that it will look and hold up well for a long time).

I can certainly see the allure of a jacket that you've had forever, a companion where all the distressing that's on it came from you wearing it. That really appeals to me on a lot of levels. The problem is that I love these jackets so much that I can't just get one and you can't wear in a jacket wearing it once a week.

Anyway, back on topic, get this washed goat! It's superb.

I know exactly what it means...hard to explain though!
I've said before that the LC jacket seems more appropriate for me in 2008...maybe it's the extra length, the bagginess, I'm not sure. I just know as much as I love the look of a Raiders jacket, it's the LC that I wear every day.

Here we go:

My washed lamb on the left, washed goat on the right. It's cloudy here today so no direct sunlight. Also, while I was switching out the D rings on my lamb for rec. sliders, I accidentally tore a couple of small holes in the strap. Nothing that affects the straps integrity and you can't even see them. But it did get me to worrying as some parts of the leather were pretty dry (the straps felt like sandpaper to me). So, in the interests of preserving the jacket, I sprayed it down with a leather dressing creme (which it drank up like nobody's business). I lost a little bit of the washed look but I don't think too much of it and the leather feels much "healthier" if that makes sense.

I think Crismans meant to say the washed goat was on the right - the darker colored jacket. That is the LC.

Kevin, you are 100% correct in what I was trying to say about the LC style for everyday wear.

LC seems to have very big pockets.

Hey all,

I went for a drive and got hopelessly lost. I don't understand, the directions said to turn right...

Anyway, I've corrected my mistake. It is the washed lamb on the left and goat on the right (LC). The goat is far and away my favorite but, after some small intitial misgivings, I'm growing fond of the lamb. It just acts like the Raiders jacket to me. I'm really glad that I used the leather cream on it, and I feel that it helped out the leather a lot. Made it feel more tough without losing much of the washed look
