I just found out this arrived while I was out this afternoon and was a bit shocked as I ordered it TUESDAY. That's four days to the US east coast friends. Actually, it's more like three full days, but who's counting? I didn't expect to see it till next week.

Would post pics but I only just stumbled upon the package and it's a wet, dark night out there. I’ll try to get some photos tomorrow.

Now the initial impressions, and I mean very initial.

First is the light weight. NOT to say not strong, but very, very light weight. A welcome addition to my heavy USW's, this will be nice for indoors and warm weather. This is most certainly NOT a winter jacket. Those in warmer areas take note: this is as light as, or lighter than, lamb. The weight makes me very happy though I wouldn't ride a motorcycle counting on this for protection.

The color, under indoor light, is truly beautiful. I was worried it would be too brown as I've seen in some pics but mine seems a genuine dark chocolate. Right now, after only minutes with the jacket I'll give the color a 10 out of 10. Do you think I like the color? You ain't kidding!

It fits! The shoulders and around the upper arm feel very good - it's 100 times better than the one I previously had which was freakishly tight right where the sleeve meets the body. I'd say this one's nearly perfect in that area. When zipped it gives an honest, un-sloppy, fit. Length seems good. Sleeves are a perfect length and excellent for when it wrinkles a little. Wow for that.

About the quality - my opinion will come when I spend time with this thing so I don't want to be too positive or overly negative now. Initially, the quality seems very good to excellent. A quick look at the stitching seems encouraging. There's one maybe sketchy small area on the inside facing near the zipper bottom. Since it's on the inside and small, no huge worry and I'm probably being picky. The rest of the stitching seems tight and straight. The leather seems to be well-matched (grain, color) overall. That left hand zip will take time to learn!

OK, let me mention the washed goat. In my opinion this may be the best leather I've felt. Honestly, for an Indy jacket, it's perfect. People talk about drape - I think this could be what you're searching for. It's so soft, so smooth, yet nicely textured with a beautiful dull finish. I’ll do nothing, repeat nothing, before I wear this – no alcohol rubs, no wadding in a ball, no trips to the shower, no tumbling in the drier. You MUST experience washed goat for yourself.

More later. I'm excited and had to post! I hope this is a keeper and first impressions are saying yes. It's seems light years ahead of the other Wested I had in my hands a month ago, that's for sure.

Get us some pics as soon as you can! Great news that you like the jacket so much! I have thought about the washed goat for a while now but went with the new washed lamb they're offering.

Now I'll have to get two.

The washed goat is the "sleeper" hit of all Indy jackets in my opinion. I'm surprised not too many have got them so far. (I think that I was one of the first in this forum to get the LC washed goat). But as time goes on, good reviews like the one above will encourage alot more people to take a more closer look. What can you not like about this great jacket?.....it's thin as lamb, drapes as good as a lamb, but has the toughness of goat.....and the color and finish is one of the Best out there!....and the affordable price is just icing on the cake!

Ok, it's a keeper. Was cool this morning so I wore it to an outside event for a few hours - very nice jacket. Feels great, good fit, and the details are good enough for me. Love the all satin lining. I think it’s a great choice for an LC.

I posted a bunch of photos so people can get an idea of the quality - well put together and for the price, I think, it’s a good value. Hope the excellent color can be seen. Wested has a great Indy jacket in this one. If anyone's on the fence, they won't be disappointed if they make the choice.

Kind of an apples and oranges but compared to my USW's I'd say the Wested is more of a fashion jacket and the USW for hard wear. Not to say the Wested isn't sturdy, just different animals. My USW goat weighs more than twice as much as this thing! The Wested has a lot more finesse, however - sexy, really.

Peter, glad I gave Wested another go. Your doing a spectacular job with these special offers! There's nothing more I'd want if I spent the extra on a custom.

the jacket itself looks great...shes a keeper.

but I dont get WHY all of the of the rack jackets lack many details each time..

take a look at the straps placement..clearly higher then the LC and CS placement.

it has no narrow box on the strap

and it has rectangulars?!!?

what is this now? you get rectangulars on a CS and D-rings on a raiders of the rack...thats just wrong..so wrong...

but I love the jacket and the hide..

I am getting one in thr raiders style..

I understand why you are buzzing; I still feel very excited about my Wested OTR Raiders; OH YEAH.

You have a great jacket and as long as you are happy with it; thats great. My Raiders is not completely SA, but I do not care; a good jacket is a keeper in my eyes and that speaks for yours.

LOL.yeah I know,I know...I have had quite a few when you add them up......but I keep on selling them...its so hard...must have more all the time...its like coffe...can live without trying new blends and types all the time...

for now...

I only have 1 ToD, 1 LC and 1 raiders..

I use my Magnoli Tod daily when the weather allows it...

I am busy cleaning out my closet..

i want to end up with 2 jackets that I can use...1 winter and 1 spring/summer/fall

Paul, I'm just thinking more people should be aware of these new Wested offerings. I know some details may be lacking for those with an eye for such things, but they are excellent choices for someone who wants a well executed jacket at a reasonable price.

Of course there's the custom option to correct those SA errors, but for me the extra expense isn't necessary. I'm sure I could be more picky about little things, but I feel pleased to be able to own a few nice jackets now.

I hope my short review will help people as it's really hard to find much info out there on these new jackets.

How does it compare in feel to the USW, does it look like it could take a beat down to get it SA from distressing it?

Very different feel from the USW. The USW is much thicker, heavier and (not sure what other way to say it) tougher. If you had both in your hands the difference would be a bit of a shock.

I have the feeling the washed goat will weather nicely with normal wear and would probably take to some artificial abuse quite well. I think it will be a big hit.

I know what you mean, Holt, it's an ADDICTION!.......Earlier this year, I had a total of 9 Indy jackets in my closet! Is this a record?......3 Wested Lambs, 1 Wested LC HH, 1 Wested Black Cowhide Raiders, 1 Wested Raiders Goat, 1 G&B Expo Goat, 1 USW VIP Goat, and 1 USW Vintage Cowhide. As of this moment, I've sold or given away most of these jackets. Right now I have a Wested LC/CS Novapelle, a Tony Nowak, a Wested LC/CS washed goat, and a Todd's Standard. Next up.....a Magnoli and Todd's Custom. When will this madness ever end?!

....I'm a 44 Reg.......a curious thing I've noticed after owning so many jackets over time is that there are can be significant inconsistencies between various vendors for a given size......so far, I've noticed that Wested seems the best in this regard......out of the 7 or so Wested jackets I've owned so far, the fit has been very consistent. Regarding my current inventory of jackets, my Wested Novapelle and Washed Goat fit me the best (not too baggy and not too tight).....my G&B was huge (which I recently ended up returning unfortunately).....my TN is snug (might be a problem for winter)......and my Todd's standard is ok (might be a tad too short).

Raider S, I love the leather and the jacket in general, looks awesome and I can't wait to see this leather after someone has gotten rained on!!

Man, isn't that a dog gone trip!! Hello Wested, this one's a LC.. it's supposed to have the D-rings. All these years folks have been grumbling about their Raiders showing up with D-rings, now we order a jacket that should have 'em and we can't get D-rings?? Someone at Wested has a great since of humor, I tell ya!

Hmmm, I just came here while researching about getting an Indy jacket,... now I have TWO Raiders style and thanks to pictures like that I'm tempted to get another one..."Indiana,...Indiana, let it go"

I noticed by looking at the pic above of the back of the jacket that one of the straps appears to be placed higher than the other.

I know, it should not be that hard to not forget: Raiders/Temple - Black, rectangular rings. LC/KOTCS - D-Rings. It seems pretty cut and dry to me. This should be the law.

could you measure the armhole and the width of the top arm (bicep/tricep) flat down on the jacket? and the cuff... just so I get the idea of the tappering

Hi PBS.

My 44T G&B fits me well as I am a "pure" 44 (in Barbour, Ralph Lauren, Burberry, etc. all the "famous" brands) and am, ahem, a 42" waist, which, while making me a bit portly, means I am a solid 44.

The jacket does have a bit of slack in the chest, but unless one will never wear more than just a t-shirt underneath, I'd think there would have to be some room for layering.

raider s....i'm expecting my raiders washed goat soon and it looks like your sleeves are patterned the same as the raiders version on wested's website. do you feel that the sleeve opening is too large or is it fine? that's one of my concerns with the pattern.

i hope you get a chance to share some pics of you wearing that beauty

This thread is killing me. I was all set to get a washed goat for my Raiders when Peter announced the limited amount of washed lamb he had. The look of the lamb plus the guarantee of it being made in the UK factory sold me on the jacket.

Now the inevitable doubts begin to surface...

Wait a second, I thought the LC had basically become the CS jacket as far as Wested is concerned... therefore it would have the double stitched shoulder/sleeve seams. I'm not seeing that on this jacket, why?

I'm not sure about the double stitching, but I wish the LC hadn't become a CS. They're quite different jackets, at least to our trained eyes, and should be advertised and produced as one or the other.
I have an 'LC' in Novapelle, and while I love it, I'm hoping my LC Lamb arrriving shortly has a little more LC detail. I think the CS style only suits the heavier hides. A CS in lamb might just look too floppy. Just my opinion. The goat pictured here looks great, by the way, though one side strap does look higher. I love the colour, if the pics are true to life!

I don't understand why if they are going to add the top and bottom snaps they don't at least hide them, it would be very easy to do and look more SA.

Sorry? What do you mean?

The snaps are visible on both the LC and CS jackets in the movies.

Whoa...I never noticed that, and I've watched the movie probably fifty times...The underside part is more visible but I thought the top of the snap was hidden or painted over.

well all I can say is welcome ....

I always thought they were "hidden" too, you learn something new all the time. Are the Wested snaps silver though?

that's interesting....i never thought there'd be a misconception of that nature....i guess we need to be more proactive with posting pictures of us sporting these babies along side screen caps

wested snaps are brass colour just like the movie ones

people who know about hides..please give me your thoughts..

just wondering about this washed goat hide..

what happens when it gets wet? will it soak up the water like a spunge?

and will it shrink the jacket when it dries??

Hard choice but I honestly think you'll LOVE the washed goat. I think it would be the perfect look for a Raiders with the added toughness of goat. Of course any way you decide, I feel you won't lose.

As far as the import/outsourcing question: I spent time thinking about this and read what Peter mentioned about the shop being run by a former employee of his, etc. and will vouch for the workmanship on the jacket I recieved; it is excellent. I also saved a decent amount of money and got a jacket I'm really growing to love more and more.

These jackets all go back to Wested for inspection so they do meet their high standards. I strongly feel Peter would not allow poor quality to leave his shop and if something does slip through I'm positive he would do whatever it takes to make it right.

The snaps came hidden on production Coopers from the era Of LC (late 80's/early 90's). Put the they were always visable on the movie jackets.

I think I was confused by the fact that Wested would do hidden snaps if requested, a few years back. I've never wanted a jacket with snaps so I never paid that much attention.

I've read a couple of times that the LC jacket is more of a Crystal Skull jacket now (even thought they're listed separately on Wested's site). Is this true, or is the OTR LC pretty much the correct pattern?
