Typical reblocking service cost...

Hello everyone.

I have a "pre-loved" fedora on the way to me now (From a member- thank you!), and though it looks fine as-is, I may be inclined to have it re-blocked sooner or later.

I also am giving serious thought to the Australian 'slouch' hat as MY adventure hat- but I'm thinking I might want to re-block and re-bash that, as well as change the brim cut.

So, who are the best people to talk to for these types of things, and what should I expect to pay for these services?

I am handy, and could probably handle the brim trim myself (and probably would do several 'small' trims to get what I think I want), but the reblocking requires (among other things) a block, which I don't have nor do I aspire to get.

The 'Indy' fedora was a $60.00 fur felt hat, so I'd rather not invest $100.00 to re-block it, but I honestly have no idea what this costs, as I have no experience in this area.

Similarly, the Slouch hat will be a used one, as I am not comfortable spending over $100.00 to 'experiment' with a totally unique hat design/shape. The Slouch will also be fur felt. I have found several on ebay and will get one soon.

I'm certain both are Rabbit and not Beaver (unless some beaver dust happened to be flying around the factory and acidentially got in the felt run...)

Thanks in advance to all the hat expertes on here!

PS I am away for the weekend, so I may not reply until Wednesday or so... But I will!

OK- I'm back! :D

I was hoping to have some replies here, but perhaps you were all just waiting for me to come back (If so, thanks!)

So, anyone have anything to add here?

I do re-blocks for $40.00 dollars plus shipping cost. There are some hats I will not work on.

OK Thanks for that info.

I don't know if I'll even bother, but I may want to 'open' the crown on a used fur-felt Akruba Slouch hat in the near future, so I can re-bash it to my liking.

Nothing fancy, but those used hats tend to not want to change bash without serious persuation, like a re-block.

Similar with a "cowboy" hat I might want to re-shape.

In the end, I want a unique hat that will e 'mine' and not an 'indy' hat or anyone elses for that matter. It will have an indy (and others) influence, but truly be mine when it is done.

Thanks again!

PS where in the world are you? I would be shipping from NY if I sent you something (for shipping cost estimation purposes)...

Where are you in Connecticut? Although no place would be all that far from New Haven -- so I'd suggest visiting or calling DelMonico about a reblock. Even if they don't do it there, surely they have someone around.

My GF is in Hamden- just up the road from NH. I'm down there just about every weekend.

Where's their shop? I'd like to check it out!
