About that lottery jacket

This has a very familiar pattern....
Ok, I was weak and it was cheap! Size "S" but still totally oversized. Nylon lining, weird leather, might be a thin cowhide but it smells a bit odd and it's almost as thin as lamb.
Looks like I've got myself a gardening jacket!
Wings needs to look into this, it has several of their pattern's hallmarks. The way the back panel is fitted, the way the collar is made, the shape of the collar and the general proportions of the jacket and the pockets.
and is this really official Lucas product??

It's a USW copy no doubt. Hope you got a good price on it!

From what I've heard, the Wings lawyers are already on the trail of this.

Those sleeves seem huge compared to my jackets. And for a small it seems like they meant for a small giant!
If you paid around $100 it actually looks like a great jacket.
Seems odd this would be an official LFL item, but would several state lotteries be that dumb as to mess with the almighty Lucas?

Who knows? They were dumb enough to say they were made by U. S. Wings!

Who are you kidding; Lucas probably gets half the Lotto sales!

For $50- $75 it's about right. It's one of those jackets that can just scrape the name "leather'. The construction isn't bad, but it isn't good either. The leather quality is very dubious. I got it as a curio, nothing else.
It's like the kind of jacket you get in those little booklet catalogues for $75.

Yes, they did a very good job at replicating a US Wings.
The sleeves on my USW jackets are nowhere near that wide.
$50 - 75 is a good price.

Maybe there need to be a few more samples shown? Maybe Wings has changed that part of their coat since then.
KT, you up for throwing that in the wash?
Yes, anything to get rid of the weird smell!
BTW the sleeve openings are 5.5" across, 11'' total.

The sleeves on my USW vintage cow are as narrow as the Wested I had. The USW goat is a little wider. These 2 USW jackets were made at different places, I believe.

Those 'rip off ' sleeves are bigger than any Wings jacket I've ever owned, or own to date.

Agreed, but just using KT's first photo, I know the man ain't a midget, and his arms are totally LOST in those sleeves, where the rest of the jacket looks pretty good in proportion. None of my Wings jackets have ever fit me like that.

I think the Chinese are legendary at exact duplicates. For $75 I would certainly get one of these in my size (judging from a small I can't imagine how big a large would be!) and bet it would be a fine jacket to beat up.

I cannot believe that is a small it looks huge. But for the price you cannot beat it. Are you going to have it tailored?

I am tiny, but a Todd medium, or a Wested 38-40 usually fit me fine, I have a Wings A2 'XS' that fits quite well too, though a bit long in the body. AC knows I have a similar body length fit in jackets to him.
This lottery jacket is cut like a 42 long. That's not a "S" in most people's book!

It has one inside pocket, on the left. the other side is completely blank.
_, I really can't describe what it smells like. Smells chemically and not like leather AT ALL! Yuck.

a curio pickup......nice! i'm glad to see that i'm not the only one with urges. for the price, that's not bad at all KT......it would make for a great costume jacket for sure. i take it that you can't wear it day to day?
as far as being 'weak', i wouldn't describe it that way. for example, i came pretty close to picking up a wool DP just to have it. i took off my AB just to try it on and it looked like night and day
no shame in that brother, and thanks for sharing.

As I recall, it was when I wore it that the - uh - aroma began to really become definable....
Maybe wear it around town and see if a pack of cats forms?
I did have a SW Fan Club example that smelled like "new carpet" - and not in a nice way...

_, new carpets is pretty close!
AC:
I actually like the way the centre panel on the lining is waisted in the middle, it doesn't do anything but looks nice!
The care label does say: Shell 100% leather, lining 100% nylon.
G: Thanks man!
The strap, is above the vent so doesn't actually 'do' anything.

KT, nice find. I, too, was wondering about these "Lotto Jackets". Every one I found on eBay was sized as XL
Look at it this way, if nothing else, the jacket looks decent enough for a mannequin(?) or display piece.

AC. Were you looking for the Wings 'care' instructions! lol
_, bonded leather sounds plausible though I've never had a jacket made out of the stuff! Cheap journal covers perhaps.
Neri, don't buy one of these unless it's REALLY cheap and only as a display/costuming piece.

Darn you - your little cryptic word to the wise has been puzzling me ever since you posted it.
Does it mean to buy one now?
Does it mean to not buy one?
Does it mean they'll all be confiscated and the buyer rewarded?
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!

Curiosity got the best of me. Despite KT's warning I had to see for myself about this jacket. I was worried about sizing issues but I went with a Large, I usually wear a 42. The sleeves are a little baggy but I am really pleased with the jacket for the money. It's constructed better than I expected. I took the leather zipper pull off and it went right in the pocket. The way I see it, I am not willing to drop $700 on a TN jacket to represent Crystal Skull. For under $100 I am more happy with this jacket than the movie it represents. One nice feature its it's lighter in color than any of my other jackets, so it's something different. Sorry for reviving the dead on this topic, but in case anyone else was still wondering about the jacket I thought I would offer a slightly different take.

do these jackets have functioning action pleats?

That does look similar to a US Wings jacket. It might make a good raincoat if you have a hood, that way it can shrink and maybe the smell will eventually die down

a couple of snaps and you have a nowak clone.... or maybe the clone of a clone of a nowak!

This was a question I had because the images make it look as though the jacket back is sewed to the side without pleats. The pleats are constructed similarly to other jackets, but they are not as deep as a Wested. They are closer to a Todd Coyle standard. I do not have a Wings to compare with.

Guys! It may look ok in photos and it will do for walking the dog or washing the car if you get it
really cheap.
It can barely be called leather, feels like rubber and smells like carpet.
Stay away, unless it's just for halloween!

Honestly KT you ALMOST kept me from getting one. I can respect that you have direct access to Wested and are more than familiar with the jackets, but it's REALLY not as bad as you make it. For $80 to $100 I'm sure many people would be quite happy with it. There is no way I could part with $700 for a Tony Nowak, as I am sure many others can not. I will still be in line for Peter's Temple jacket though.
I left mine hanging out for a few days and there is hardly any smell to it. It was strong right out of the bag I admit. My wife says it smells like new sneakers
. The jacket is heavier than a Todd's but no where near as heavy as a Wested COW. The "leather" has been treated but it feels closer to my Todd's standard than rubber.
I got the prize pack off the popular auction site. I kept the jacket, box, 2 shirts, and flipped the leather bag and hat to offset my original costs. I also figure it is an official jacket - borrowed pattern or not - and thus collectible. I have been disapointed that there has not been more official merchandise surrounding the films release so I have been trying to pick up a few things while Indy is back in the mainstream. Could not be happier
. To each his own.

Looking back, I have no idea why I bought this jacket for $110. I like the distressed look and overall detail that was put into it but it's among the cheapest looking jackets sold. The leather looks like "pleather". ...maybe if the leather was thicker it would be better?
The sleeve openings are very wide as mentioned. The leather smell goes away quickly. The sizes run larger (e.g. Large is really XL). The collar is also too large. The side pleats look fragile.
The wife hates it. I doubt it would be worn in public. At least it came with the "Property of Dr. Jones" box.
It's def a quality Halloween jacket.
Update: I just showed the jacket to a friend at work. He's a semi Indy fan. He thinks it looks like a jacket that a homeless person would wear.

Nice friend!! At least he was honest with his answer.
Since you already have the jacket, you can try something to make it look
better, that does not cost alot.
Buy yourself some Pecards standard dressing. Its the kind with bees wax
in it.
Get some, and put a nice coating of it on one side of the front of the
jacket, and let it sit for about two days without touching it.
Then, take an old tee-shirt, or some other 100 percent cotton cloth, and
wipe off the excess.
Compare this side to the other side. The Pecarded side will be darker,
smoother, and alot of the fake looking distressing will be hidden under
the Pecards.
You will like how it now looks so much, that you will instantly want to
do the rest of the jacket with the Pecards.
Its worth a try, and it will only get BETTER looking with each coating
you apply.
Try it, you'll like it!! I did this with an LL Bean "Weathered" goatskin
jacket, that quite frankly, looked like it had a 1980's acid washed finish.
Once the Pecards soaked in, the leather got darker in color, smoother, and the "weathered"
portions came out looking alot less noticable. It now just has an older
jacket look to it. Not acid washed in any way.

It looks like a duplicate of a USWings.
It must be an 'official' Lucas licensed product or these would have been stopped long ago.
Lucas has some 'splaining to do I think.
Interesting if you look at the Florida lottery site on the way they are giving these out.

contact a seller called marjac68 on a famous internet auction site. They appear to have purchased few of these to resell individual items so they may still have the boxes.
