I mean do we ever reach the point when we're completely happy with our respective "lids"?
I ask this as I often find myself looking at my Federation, picking it up and making the slightest push, or teeniest bend in wherever
Get what I mean??...and do y'all do the same??

As far as Indy lids, I'm very happy with my Fed III, but I'd love to get an CS AB and a Magnoli/AB/HG.

Since buying my first Akubra in 2002, I have bought and sold countless hats in my quest to get a perfect Raiders hat - Feds, ABs, HJs even a Christies - and I fiddled endlessly with them. I invested a huge chunk of my life in working out how to get a perfect Raiders bash, or at least it feels that way to me - until I finally solved my problem. I stopped wearing a fedora!
Happy fiddling

It's crazy but that's half the fun for me, I have two hats and I want to make my own, I would love to get an AB, A Pennman and anybody elses, to compare to say I have that's what collecting and hobbies are all about the quest to get stuff, if you have enough then you have lost the love of the chase, tha's my 2 cents take care.

I look at fedoras the same way I look at guitars: each are different and you can never have too many. After buying a Gibson Les Paul back in December of '05 I have not felt a need to go out and buy anymore guitars because I feel like I finally put together the missing link in my sound, but it doesn't mean I want to stop at that. I have gone through countless guitars and none of them quite satisfied me the way my Les Paul does. I have three of them, but this last one, I really love it. Hats are the same: each are different and you can never have too many!

At some point I said to myself that the lid I have now is the fedora I got. It's the best I've ever owned, it's the most I deserve...
The feeling I had for the longest time was that I couldn't be happy until I got the perfect fedora. Not the perfect replica of Jones' fedora, but a fedora that was perfect for me and suited my frame and attitude. Then when I got one the question was... now what?
Once you get everything you want, then the door should be open for you to DO everything you want to do. If you want to go on that trip of a life time, then go. If you want to visit a part of the world that's always facinated you, be sure to take pictures and come back to write about your experince.
If "Raiders Of The Lost Ark" was about a Blogger that never left home but had a really cool lid, who would care and want to replicate that look. Don't just try to look like Jones (or Sam Spade, or Eliott Ness, or Michael Sullivan, or Tom Regan) be the "Jones" of your profession. It's not about the lid, it's about the life style.

My search is over,...been over for some time. It ended when I received my Marc Kitter made Adventurebilt Deluxe.
The end all be all Indiana Jones fedora.
That's my opinion, and I'm sticking to it.

I'll second that.

I'm brand new to COW and would like to get started by asking how long did you have to wait for your Deluxe?
Thanks!

It took about 4 months, way back before all the CS hype started.
From what I've read, his wait time is now considerably longer.

I'm pretty new to this forum so I cannot speak from much experience; however, I think I won't be entirely happy until I get an AB with a KotCS bash. There's something about having a fedora that was crafted by the same person who did so for the movie.
In a similar scenario, I shoot traditional English longbow, and I have a bow made by Steve Ralphs. He provided bows and instruction on loads of movies including Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves and Braveheart, which are two of my favorite movies. It may sound silly, but it adds a sense of authenticity to my longbow.
Given the long wait times and the amount of money necessary to purchase an AB, I'll hold off for now, and instead, I'm going to take one step closer to that authenticity by getting a Fed IV. It'll provide me the opportunity to style it myself, which sounds like fun. It's the "journey" to getting my holy grail AB that I'm going to enjoy.

IMO, tweaking/massaging/adjusting/finessing your hat--any hat--is part of the fun of owning one these days. The more you do it, the more personality your hat (or hats) will have. When it comes to Indiana Jones hats, sure, we're all trying to attain the same basic look, but each of us has a different idea of exactly what that look is, which makes every hat unique to it's wearer. And that's the beauty of it!

I have been buying and fiddling with fedoras for the last 20 years trying to get the Indy look I wanted. The money I have spent on inferior hats could have funded a couple of AB's at least! I now have two very fine fedoras; an old one half of my own making, and a beautiful new JPD. When the JPD arrived, I thought "finally, I have the hat I have wanted all my life!" I have wrecked enough hats trying to make them into something that they are not that I can finally be satisfied to let a fedora take it's crease and live as it is without endless manipulation.
I know that there will be more fedoras in the future, but finally getting "The Hat", at least to my eyes, has relieved a lot of compulsive behavior.

Oh, yeah. Been there, done that. Gone through 6 fedoras since '84 and I'm now waiting on
a Raiders-style Keppler.
ALMOST ordered a JPD lid - I was really torn between the two,
I still might get one in the future. :junior:

No, I can't restrain myself. Saw and touched an AB last Friday in Memphis. So glad I have one on order.

Sure, we stop....Everyone eventually goes into 'The great unknown mystery' eventually...
Oh, wait...There's that whole re-incarnation thing.
NO. We don't stop, I guess.
Suits me just fine.

I've pretty much stopped buying *Indiana Jones* Fedoras. Does that count?
After having bought two AB's (one Raiders SoC, one KCS) I think I've got as many Indiana Jones fedoras as I need - any more and I'd inevitably end up with one of them collecting dust on a shelf, and they don't deserve that.
I'm starting to diversify my interest in fedoras - panama hats, gray fedoras...I'm looking into getting a very nice gray homburg, similar to the one on Optimo's site, but every time I bid on one on ebay I get outbid
Anyway, I guess what I'm saying is, the hat-collecting hobby has no end...at least not for me. And as for what Ren said...well as soon as I get back to college, I'm thinking of doing some hiking. :junior: -M

I'm satisfied. I have my 2 AB's and couldn't ask for anything more. One I wear as my daily anything goes hat and the other I keep a little cleaner for "nicer" occasions. Hmm, wait, I think I need to have a grey AB..... and maybe another to really nail that SOC look and maybe another.....

I got an AkAd to start me off before I knew about the history of the quest for an Indy fedora through Hatsdirect and Ron (via the Fed).
Since then I have used it to practice my bashing skills, subsequently bought both my boys Fed IV standards (bashed one as a SoC and the other as a LC/CS) and had a lot of fun doing it.
Now I have a Fed Deluxe on order and it should be only a week away (or so
). My better half asks me constantly, "Why do you need another hat?!!" . . . and my only answer is that is like a scratch that cannot be itched - journey of the soul . . never wanting to get to the end!
Cheers
