New whip I made.

Post by minstrel »

Ok, here it is, my latest whip. It's a 12-plait saddle tan roo hide bullwhip with a spike as the handle foundation. What do you think?

Alright, you caught me! It's not a full size whip, although it's made the same way I make my full sized ones, except the "spike" in the handle is a nail. It's actually only 40 cm (15 3/4") long, and I was inspired to make it by seeing a 14" bullwhip in another thread here. I don't think mine is as good looking as that one, but here's the killer... IT CRACKS! Yep, I can actually get it to crack. Not like a cannon, mind you, but still. I think it's pretty impressive. :) I wonder how long it will take to break it in, though...? :-k

Here's a comparison picture with my (hitherto) latest 8½' saddle tan bullwhip:

LOL!

I think it looks great. A little on the chubby side. I would love to have one of those mini-whips. How hard is it to crack?

It's chubby because I decided to put two plaited bellies in it.

It's not that hard to crack, actually, but it's super fast. And it has a tendency to whip around and hit your hand and forearm, since it's so short. I've done cattleman's cracks and overhead cracks with it, as well as the fast figure eight and the volley. I seriously doubt it will do any of the other cracks, though. :)

Here's an 18 inch that I made:

This bullwhip has a 6 inch handle and I shot loaded this whip so that it would have some weight to it without the "chubby" look. It's got a pretty nice crack!
