SO guys, I know this has been beat into the frigging ground here. But is there a bottom line in terms of what type of lining was in the jacket in Raiders??
I ordered satin because I like the sound of "cool and silky." Can anyone with any experience with the satin lining comment on it? What is the cotton silesia like?? Thanks!!!

It just depends on who you talk to, and where you live.
It has always been said that it was an all cotton lining in the jackets, and yet we've seen photos with a shiny looking lining in some of the production stills.
As to satin, some folks LOVE it....but if you're wearing a short sleeve shirt and it gets the least bit humid, it sticks to you like glue. Personally I'm not a fan....but for folks who live in cooler climes, it's the next best thing to sliced bread, as it's easier to pull on and off over long sleeve shirts.
The cotton is harder to pull over long sleeves, but it's cooler in my experience.
So, choose your poison.

I have both in my jacket, cotton body, and satin sleeves and I love it.I'm wondering how warm I will be, I know layering is a big factor but how will it fare with just a shirt on. I can wait though,I love summer and no big hurry for snow. I do wear the jacket in the house from time to time just to get a fix.

If you left enough room for layering, you will love that combination when it gets cooler. The satin sleeves allow for REAL ease of removal, and yet the cotton body lining keeps the jacket in place as you wear it.

Thanks for the tips guys!!! Much appreciated. I think I'm going to stick with satin. My brother bought a Wested a few years ago and it I can't remember what the lining was. He's sold it since then and doesn't remember either. The only thing I remember is that it was sort of shiney and was brown. Would that have been the cotton silesia or is that the satin? If not brown, what color is the satin?

Shiney? it was satin.

I thought as much! I remember wearing it and it feeling very smooth and easy. I'm very excited I will be posting pics as soon as I receive it!

Rocks I have to tell you I LOVE the all satin lining in my jacket. It feels wonderful.
Cotton may be more durable over the years and its certainly warmer, but I can put on my jacket with the satin lining and feel comfortable in very warm weather. My all cotton lining is nice but feels completely different.

See what I mean? Some folks love it, and others......well, I have had only one with entire lining, and had a DICKENS of a time keeping the jacket from sliding off my shoulders all the time.....so everyone has different experiences with the product.

Oh it might slide around but isn't that part of the charm!?
It really makes my jacekt feel somewho lighter. Hard to explain. It's also nice while sitting as the jacket seems to allow easier movement.

It might BE physically lighter.

Raider S I think I'm with you. I'm 99% sure the Wested my brother owned was all satin and it was just a joy to wear. Although I live in the northeast and it gets terribly hot and sticky here, I'm not really worried. I wouldn't be wearing a jacket on those days anyway. Probably at night in the summers.

Kt Templar I REALLY want to see those pics but the links aren't working for me, do I have to sign up?
I have another question, possibly Michaelson will know the answer. This is another much debated topic and after reading through a lot of old threads I'm still not clear. What is the deal with the"80s" fit????
I am almost EXACTLY built like Ford was in 1981 except maybe slightly taller. (I'm just under 6'2) I like slim fitting shirts and jackets and don't want something very roomy or too boxy in the torso. I've emailed Wested seeing if I can amend my order because when I placed it I didn't realize there was a choice for a slimmer cut. That's essentially what I want. A tailored look, which is just what Ford rocked in Raiders. Any thoughts on this?? As soon as I hear from Wested I will relay the info but any input in the meantime would be much appreciated.
Cheers

so..I guess you have had a look at my post then about this.right?
half the jacket forum is about the 80's fit questions...
but ok....
here it is:
the
standard and
80's fit are different from one another but not THAT much...they are similar...but still they are different...
the
standard has fuller cut to the body, meaning it's wider in the torso and chest.
the
80's cut or special ROLA as wested calls it has a more tappered body to it.more fitting in the torso.
the sleeves are also a bit wider and untappered on a
standard cut while the
80's has tappered sleeves and a tad thighter and higher armholes.
the
standard has 4'' of extra chest room while the
80's has 2 '' of extra chest room
the
80's of the rack has a longer body length to it also.I think it's 26'' on a 44 while the
standard44 has 25.25'' ( I think?) maby 25.5''
the
80's comes without the leather facings.more rounded top corner at storm flap.longer straps.X-box stitch.smaller pockets.Screen accurate narrow pleats.silver zipper.tappered sleeves.higher armholes.
while the
standard of the rack is different from time to time.some times it comes without the X-box and sometimes it comes without something else that needs to be on the jacket...
the
standard has leather facings.heavy duty zipper.thicker lambskin.it comes with D-rings.bigger pockets....and off course the
standard comes with MUCH deeper pleatsthen the
80's..and usually stand out like bat wings IMO when it's broken in..but you can ask Peter if he can install elastic bands in the pleats so they stay more closed.
but overall the
standard in my opinion is a great Indy ''style'' jacket while the
80's is more Indyish..you get a more Raiders feeling IMO.
when I order a
standard jacket I order one with modifications..just so I get everything that I want on a Indy jacket...
hope that this helps you a bit on deciding wich of the rack jacket you want.
regards
Holt

Makes sense Holt, I did see that post I just didn't see an option for this when ordering so I was confused. I revealed myself as a COW-er to Wested and inquired so I'll wait to see what they say. I'm not overly concerned with being 100% SA as I am with having a perfect fit that looks GOOD like it does on Mr Ford.
SO if I'm a 40 chest normally is that still what I want with the 80's cut?
Posted: Tue Jul 29, 2008 7:41 pm
by Holt
ok.
I have a 44.5 chest so I dont get it in a 44 I go for the 46.
I like it a little romier like the original raiders jakcet had...its better to go one size up then one down...and there is always the nice water shrinkage method if it is a tad to big
the back length on all the 80's of the rack is 26 inches..at least thats what it is on the 40.42.44.46.
the option for this 80's jacket on westeds website is the Special ROLA.

So Gemma got back to me from Wested. (Forgive my ignorance but who is Gemma?)
They are going to amend my order to the 80s fit which I am very excited about. I've also got a Magnoli HJ on the way and will post pics as soon as I've got the gear in my hands.
Kt-It was DEFINITELY satin now that I see the pics. Makes me even more excited.
Michaelson-I'm definitely one of those satin lovers.
