27 years of Jonesing and 4 films later I've come to the conclusion that Indy's best gear was:

Fedora: Kingdom
Jacket: Crusade
Bullwhip: Raiders
Bag: Temple

What do you think?

My personal choice:

Fedora: Raiders
Jacket: Crusade
Bullwhip: Raiders
Bag: who cares??

In my opinion I would say:


Jacket: Raiders no doubt!!

Fedora: Raiders or KOTCS. Maybe KOTCS with a Raiders pinch

Shirt: ToD. (Improved reinforced stitching, perfect epaulettes, perfect fit)

Trousers: definitely Raiders (as seen on screen)

Belt: Brown as in Raiders, ToD, KOTCS

Bag: I don't know, to me all looked the same.(except the one with the three drain plugs)

Gun: Webley Green

Holster: Although I preffer the Webley, the look of Raiders holster was nicer.

Bag strap: Raiders brown 1 in.

Whip: David Morgan Raiders

Bag and Strap; Like them all.
Whip; Raiders.
Sweat; LC (just enough to know he's workin').
Non-Adventure Clothing; Raiders.

I'm gonna have to cast my vote for all Raiders. Although the quality of the Kingdom fedora would be preferred.

The First remains the Best.

RAIDERS all the way for me, too.

The jacket was a tough call, though; I really like the CS, too.

The problem with the CS hat, for me, was that it looked TOO good; part of the fun is seeing how the hats used in various scenes get distressed in unique ways, and there wasn't much of that in CS. It was a good advertisement for AB quality, though.

If they make an Indy V, I'd like to see them go back to using rabbit fur, as it seems to distress in ways that look more interesting onscreen.

Also, if they had chosen the travelling hat as the main hat for CS, that would have been a stronger contender for me.

I grew up with the Orginal movies as a kid but KOTCS was the first release I saw in theatres. I love all the movies equally but my bias leads to KOTCS.

Fedora: CS
Bag Strap: LC/CS
Gun: LC/CS
Whip: Raiders...I guess...But I love the CS whip...
Shirt: TOD
Jacket: Raiders
Pants: Raiders
Gun Belt: Raiders or LC
Aldens: Same...different colors?

I have to say Raiders on everything. You gotta go with the original.

I love Raiers - but Steve's hat in CS is pretty hot too.

Jacket is a tie between Raiders and Temple. Raiders is the classic but the Temple jacket looks tough and no stinkin' poppers!

This is a really interesting thread. Let's see:

Fedora: Raiders (although I really do like the CS look)
Jacket: Temple (I love the look of the Raiders but as to actual features, I like the TofD better)

I don't think I have a preference on the rest (although we didn't see enough bullwhip action in CS!!)

Raiders for the hat. Temple for everything else, especially the jacket.
Sorry folks, although I think Mutt's jacket is pretty cool, the Nowak Indy jacket is absolutely dreadful - in cut, colour and fit. Just looks very cheap.

Not me-- I LOVE the TOD costume, esp. the hat (in most scenes, anyway). And the Suspension Bridge look is one of the best in the series, in my opinion.

That's really ironic! The first two gear pieces you mentioned, and perhaps the most prominent ones, are copies!

The LC jacket was a copy of an archive jacket, and the KotCS fedora? Well, we all know THAT story!

May be they're copies, but they look very different from the originals.

i don't know if i'm an indyfan because i'm a collector or if i'm a collector because i'm an indyfan. regardless, because of that paradox, my favourite gear goes to CS.....though of course CS was not the best IJ movie....but the question is about the gear.

why do i put CS at the top? because you can have the same gear that was in the film. no debate of who made it, where the right hat block is now, why the jacket pattern doesn't look right, settling for a shorter handled whip, etc, etc. to me, this is a gearheads dream come true. thats why i'm truly enjoying collecting CS stuff.....these are the best 'close enuff's' that you will ever find

That's true,but the Serach for Raiders Gear and what's elusive about it, is, I think, part of the big draw. It's the mystery, the research, the nostalgia. The feeling that you are develing deep into the misty mysteries of Hollywood to uncover the TRUTH about Raiders. Its like searching for the Well of Souls using the Belloq's headpiece to the staff of Ra. You think you have it and you almost get it, but then find it's a few yards to the left and then you go crazy looking for it, and then find yourself dressed like a Jewish highpriest saying stuff you really don't understand and then your buddies all start doing this weird face thing and then.......

Well I think you get the picture, right?

For me it's Raiders all the way, with the exception of:

Fedora - Kingdom of the Crystal Skull; I like the dimensions and prefer the more "generic" bash. I know this is a blasphemous statement on this site, but I never really liked the tight Raiders pinch.

the hat has to be the raiders HJ its the most characteristic hat ever just the hat bash itself shouts indy.
i can say the same about the rest of the gear too raiders completely with the addition of the kotcs backpack.

Everything looks best in Raiders. Even the sand.

Best gun would be in Raiders, the Browning Hi-power. That is a Killing machine and Indy knew just how to use it. That bar scene is probably the best shoot-out among the four films.

What about the Temple of Doom dinner Jacket? It is a great look.

BTW it's a good thing he wears Aldens in every flick. I love mine!
