Dear all,
after making the Kaplan Sr., Kaplan jr. and I were discussing if he wanted the exact same hat for himself, or if he'd rather try something else. The idea of making a CS Fedora with a bound brim and the wider ribbon had been bouncing forth and back in my head ever since I finished the Kaplan Sr. and I told Kaplan jr. about it. After discussing a few details such as dim. cut yes or no, Raiders or CS block, bow design and some other details, Kaplan jr. gave me a green light. I'm must admit that I'm EXTREMELY proud of how it turned out! I really, really like the design and how it looks on me (Kaplan jr. can consider himself lucky that it's too big for me
) and if I wouldn't be so far behind, I'd make one for myself immediately. Kinda classic meets Indy. Anyway enough of the talk, here are the pictures:
As always, any feedback is appreciated.
Regards,
Marc

It's true-to-period, dressier-than-usual, and even-more-handsome than the original.

Ah, the brim shape only a bound edge can deliver... or so I believe. Gorgeous hat, and I wish there was some way I could get a hat to carry that exact shape without the bound edge... as appealing as the bound edge is... Great Job!

Thanks for all you kind feedback guys. I appreciate it very highly
As for the brim shape... I don't see why it would be a problem to get that exact shape without binding the brim. I DID make it a little different than usual, but nothing that takes a bound brim to accomplish.

Marc

You got that right! I actually REALLY like that bound brim! I used to think the bound brim was a pretty... stupid idea. But this hat has changed my mind!! That looks SO classy!
Great work, Marc!!

Ahh what a beauty. I don't think I've ever seen such an attractive hat. Please PM me Marc and give me an idea of what a hat would cost shipped to the USA looking exactly as this one looks...

Hmm...I guess I've just never seen a brim so... snapped but non-curly that didn't have a bound edge. Great, now I have something new to look for in an indy lid

Kaplan, congrats on a very nice hat. You can see that a lot of work went into that hat.

Back in the Day many of the best Fedoras had bound brims. Now if only someone would resurrect the Cavanagh Edge.

My wife asked how I could post so crappy pictures of such a nice hat. Of course I went like "Oh yeah?! Well if you think you can do it better, just go ahead!". I stand corrected
so I've exchanged the pictures in the firs post...

Probably will. My father has been buggin' me for years to make a grey one for him. And the grey AB-Dlx. rawbodies are sittin' on my shelf already, I just need some new sweatband for these yet. I think that one in grey with a dark blue ribbon would look really nice

Sounds just great! Would look terrific with a Classic Navy Suit, Topcoat/Overcoat, or Blazer -- and, of course, lots of Grey Flannel.
