Russell Schultz has just let me know he is now offering his whips directly through his new website:

His Indy whips are not there yet, but he'll put some photos of them soon. He has modified his original design, and his latest Indy whips are now a bit thicker and sport 6-strand points.

For those who are not familiar with him and his work, he is one of Australia's finest whipmakers. His whips are really nice, smooth, and crack wonderfully right out of the box. In fact, my 8ft Schultz is one of the best cracking whips in my collection.

It will be good to be able to order directly from the man.
I'm always happy to avoid WSP.
I like my Schultz whips. As Bernardo says, they are great crackers.
My only reservation about Schultz's whips is the very delicate construction at the end of the thong.

That's a great-looking website; it almost makes me want to get more of Russell's whips

I have a few a Russell's whips, and right now I'm using a pair of his 8-plait stockwhips as my main practice whips. They have 6-plait points and I've found them to be as durable as anything.

I think the main issue in the past was that Russell wouldn't carry the core of the whip all the way through the fall hitches at the point. This would leave the strands going into the fall hitches with less support. After some issues with his Indy whips he has since changed that and now carries the core all the way through.

Thank you for clarifying one of the nuances of whip construction/making.
The great thing about the forum is the responsiveness of those willing to share their knowledge and insights.

This is my Indy Style Schultz that i got i think two years ago, or thereabouts. I dont have time to check my records but its been getting lots of use, and yeah, the point was sooo fine, being eight strands, it used to be a ten footer. Now it's down to a respectable 8.6 feet, and its handling a LOT easier, as a result. Pretty soon I'll learn some new tricks, but i am still ever respectful of its fragility, so I dont tend to muscle the thing, like Indy did in the Cairo Crack scene
